On Saturday afternoon, the Sul Ross State volleyball team dropped its third straight match in four sets.
The McMurry War Hawks lost the first set, but then battled back to win, 18-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-12, at the Pete P. Gallego Center.
Similar to their previous match with Hardin-Simmons on Friday, the Lobos looked solid in the opening set.
Sul Ross led 5-2 early on.
McMurry then went on a 4-0 run to trail 11-9. After a service ace from
Taryn Griner, a kill by
Cassandra Espinoza and an attack error from the War Hawks, the Lobos went ahead by six points.
The War Hawks closed the gap, trailing by two until Sul Ross went on a 5-0 run, which was highlighted by two kills from
Victoria Flores, a kill by
Annika Canaba and another kill by
Daniella Garcia.
Griner nailed the final two kills to give Sul Ross the win in game one.
Sul Ross was down 6-1 early on before fighting back to tie up the score at 10-all. The Lobos regained the lead on a service ace from Flores, but McMurry came back to take a 16-12 lead.
McMurry used a 4-0 run to help solidify the 25-18 win in set two to tie the match.
The third set featured five lead changes before McMurry pulled away late in the game by using a 4-0 run to increase its lead to 23-18.
Two kills by Canaba chiseled down the deficit to three, but the War Hawks ended up prevailing to take the 2-1 lead in the match.
At first, the start of the fourth set was close before McMurry turned things up a notch by taking a 10-point lead.
Sul Ross never held a lead during the final set as the War Hawks were able to walk away with the four-set victory.
Once again, Canaba was the offensive leader with 15 kills and 12 assists.
Daniella Garcia ended up with six kills while
Loren Garcia, Griner and Flores each had five kills.
Herrera finished with 16 digs while
Tatyana Colon had 11.
Kamrynn Caruth tallied 21 assists.
