Julian Paredes went for 22 points and 17 rebounds in Thursday night's overtime loss to Ozarks.
First Half
Logan Dixon gave the Lobos a 2-0 lead with a jumper, but it was short-lived as the Ozarks answered with a 9-0 run. Sully then responded with a 10-3 run to tie it 12-12.
Trey Nelson and
Caelyb Kerley started with buckets before
Julian Paredes and Dixon hit back-to-back triples for the tie. Nelson gave the Lobos their next lead at 19-17 with a layup, but it proved to be their last of the half. The Eagles immediately took it back with a triple eventually stretched it to 28-20 with six minutes left. Dixon and Paredes then combined for a 10-3 run to cut it to 31-30 with three minutes before the break. Ozarks upped it back to five late before
Gabe Sanchez finished with a pair of free throws to trail 37-34 going to the second.
Second Half
Paredes started the second with a jumper to cut it to one, but the Eagles took control soon after with a 23-7 run to lead 60-43 near the midway point. Dixon scored eight during a 12-2 run for a 62-55 score with just over eight minutes left. After Ozarks got it back to 11, Dixon hit a jumper before Paredes finished a three-point play with a free throw to trim it to 67-61. Now down 69-61, an 8-0 answer brought the Lobos back for a tie with just over three minutes left. The run saw buckets from Nelson, Sanchez,
CJ Jemison and finally two free throws from Sanchez. Paredes again tied the game at 72-72 with a triple, but Ozarks went back ahead 76-73 with about a minute left. Layups from Nelson and Sanchez then gave the Lobos a 77-76 lead with 29 seconds remaining. The Eagles notched things up with a free throw, but Sully had one last possession. They got a good look but couldn't connect on a layup to send the game to overtime at 77-77.
Overtime
Paredes put the first point on the board in overtime, but Ozarks answered back with the next four to lead 81-78. Sanchez later went to the line and sank a pair to cut it to 81-80 with over three minutes left. After the Eagles hit a jumper, Nelson tied it up with a three-pointer for an 83-83 score. Ozarks retook the lead again with a jumper with 1:30 left and scoring ceased from there in an 85-83 loss to the Eagles.
Stats
Paredes' 22 points came on 8-of-15 shooting and 4-of-8 from three in a team-high 41 minutes played. Five of his 17 rebounds were offensive and he added four assists.
Dixon matched Paredes with 22 points and had six rebounds. He shot 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
Nelson finished with 15 points, four assists and three rebounds.
Sanchez shot 7-of-8 from the free throw line for 11 points with five rebounds.
Sully falls to 6-13 on the season and 3-11 in conference. The Eagles move to 5-12 and 4-8.
The Lobos next take on Belhaven at Gallego Center on Thursday, February 3.
