Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lobos competitive in loss to #19 Hardin-Simmons

ALPINE, Texas - Women's hoops battled hard with #19 Hardin-Simmons, but a lopsided first quarter was the difference in an 85-67 loss on Saturday at Gallego Center.

"We played three solid quarters but need to work on playing a complete game," said head coach Katie Novak. "Once we got down we were playing catch up the whole game instead of trying to play our game. We will get back to the drawing board and be ready to work next week."

First Quarter
Caitlyn Corley opened the game with a layup for a 2-0 lead that later stretched to 8-5 on a jumper by Alexis Carmosino. The Cowgirls retook the lead at 10-8 and took control from there for a 25-10 advantage going to the second.

Second Quarter
Carmosino trimmed it to 11 with a jumper midway through the second, but HSU upped it to as many as 18 with under five minutes left in the half. Sully got it back to 14 twice and went to the half down 42-27.

Third Quarter
Carmosino scored four in a row midway through the third to cut it to 55-41, but the Lobos trailed 63-48 going to the final quarter.

Fourth Quarter
Marley Rokas started the fourth with a three-point play to bring it back to 12, but the Cowgirls answered back with an 8-0 run to lift their lead to 20. Sully fought back, using a 7-0 run to make it 75-63 with just under five minutes left. Vania Hampton started with a layup before Carmosino drained a jumper. Hampton then drained a triple to complete the run. The Lobos wouldn't get any closer, eventually falling in an 85-67 final.

Stats
Carmosino led the game with 25 points and 10 rebounds. She added four steals and shot 6-of-6 from the free throw line.

Rokas scored 13 with seven rebounds and shot 7-of-7 from the line.

Hampton was also in double digits with 12 points, adding six rebounds.

The Lobos move to 8-8 on the season and are 4-7 in conference. Hardin-Simmons stands at 12-2 and 7-2.

Sully stays at home, next taking on UT Dallas at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 20.
