ALPINE, Texas - Women's hoops erased a 16-5 first quarter deficit and led through three but were outlasted by UT Dallas in Thursday night's 60-54 loss to the Comets.
First Quarter
Sully led 2-0 on a
Marley Rokas jumper but were outscored the rest of the way and trailed 16-5 after the first.
Second Quarter
The Comets upped their lead to 13 before the Lobos used a 15-3 run to bring it to within one at 21-20. Down 23-22,
Alexis Carmosino hit back-to-back jumpers for a 26-23 advantage late in the first half. UTD scored the final bucket, but Sully held on to a 26-25 advantage at the break.
Third Quarter
UTD scored the first two of the third to retake the lead but eventually fell behind 33-29 after a 7-2 run from the Lobos.
Ashley Nunez started with a three-point play before
Alyssa Ramlochan and Carmosino hit back-to-back jumpers to go up four. Sully's largest lead came with under three minutes left on a Ramlochan free throw for a 40-34 advantage before going to the final quarter with a 40-36 lead.
Fourth Quarter
The Comets scored the first seven for a three-point lead. Ramlochan then cut it back to one with a layup. UTD got their lead to as many as four, but the Lobos would not go away, twice cutting it one. The final four minutes favored the Comets, outscoring Sully 10-5 in a 60-54 final.
Stats
Vania Hampton and Carmosino led the Lobos with 12 points each. Carmosino added three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Hampton had a game-high five steals and added five boards.
Ramlochan led the game with eight rebounds to go with nine points, two assists and two steals.
The Lobos fall to 8-9 and 4-8 in conference. UTD moves to 8-3 and 7-1.
Sully next hosts LeTourneau at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday for
Superhero Day at Gallego Center.
