ALPINE, Texas - Thursday night's men's hoops contest saw 14 lead changes and six ties in a back-and-forth 95-84 loss to McMurry.
First Half
Julian Paredes gave the Lobos their first lead at 5-4 with a triple. They then fell behind 10-5 and trailed until
Gabe Sanchez drained a triple for a 19-19 tie. That was the capper on a 6-0 run which also saw a free throw from
Caelyb Kerley and a layup by
Logan Dixon. Sully's next advantage came at 23-22 with a Dixon layup. Paredes soon erased a one-point deficit with a triple to lead 26-24. Paredes was not done there, answering a game-tying McMurry bucket with another three-pointer to go ahead 29-26. The War Hawks retook a 30-29 lead and held it the rest of the half for a 42-37 advantage at the break.
Second Half
Dixon cut it to two with a triple to open the half, but McMurry kept the pressure on the Lobos and soon upped it back to seven. Sully continued to battle, answering with a 9-0 run for a 51-49 lead.
Mitchell Martinez cut it to five with a layup before a
Trey Nelson triple and Paredes layup evened the score. Nelson capped the run with a layup for the two-point advantage with just over 16 minutes left. The War Hawks immediately retook the lead and grew it to eight. The Lobos then charged back with another 9-0 run from beyond the arc. Dixon hit the first before back-to-back from Kerley put Sully ahead 62-61. Four more lead changes followed over the next two and a half minutes, the last being a 68-67 advantage for the Lobos before McMurry took it back and never relinquished it in a 95-84 final over the Lobos.
Paredes led the game and matched a career-high with 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting and 7-of-11 from beyond the arc. He also led the Lobos with 11 rebounds.
Dixon finished with 16 points, four assists and three rebounds.
CJ Jemison added 11 points with four rebounds and two assists.
Eli Gonzalez totaled a game-high seven assists.
Sully falls to 5-10 on the season and 2-8 in conference. McMurry moves to 5-8 and 3-5.
The Lobos finish the week at home against Hardin-Simmons at 3:00 p.m. this Saturday.
