Lobos defeat Concordia in four sets #SRSU | #ASCvb | #d3vb

ALPINE, Texas - Volleyball bounced back after a loss in set one by taking the next three in a four-set victory over Concordia at Gallego Center.

"I went from having a heart attack to extreme proudness," said head coach Troy Canaba. "We came out a little flat, but the girls were able to change their mentality and push through. This was a total team effort today!"

Set 1:
Concordia owned the momentum out of the gate in set one with an 8-0 run. A service error put Sully on the board, but the Tornadoes went on to take a 15-5 lead. Sully could only get to within eight the rest of the way for a 25-16 win for Concordia in set one.

Set 2:
The Lobos set the pace in set two with a 7-2 run to start. Down 2-1, they scored the next five. Annika Canaba totaled three kills during the run and Tatyana Colon finished it with a service ace.

Sully then rattled off five of the next seven points with the help of two more kills from Canaba for a 12-4 advantage.

Concordia answered with the next four before a service error and a kill from Taryn Griner made it 14-8.

Scoring remained steady for both sides until the Lobos used a 5-0 run to lead by 10. Victoria Flores added a pair of kills during the run for a 24-14 score.

Mia Bella Ruiz solidified it with a kill for a 25-15 win in set two.

Set 3:
Sully opened the third on a 7-3 run with a kills by Daniella Garcia, Mia Bella Ruiz and four from Canaba.

Concordia responded with a kill but quickly fell behind 11-4 with a 4-0 answer from the Lobos.

Sully soon upped their lead to 16-7 with the help of four attack errors and a kill by Griner.

Both sides went back and forth until CTX cut it to a 23-17 deficit late in the set.

Isabella Ruiz and Canaba scored two of the final three points of the set with kills for a 25-18 score and a lead of two sets to one.

Set 4:
Sully erased a 1-0 deficit with three in a row for their first lead of the set and held it until CTX tied it at 6-6.

Mia Bella Ruiz then coupled a kill with two attack errors for a 9-6 advantage.

Concordia made it close again with two in a row before a 5-2 answer put the Lobos ahead by four. Canaba notched two more kills during the streak with Isabella Ruiz adding another for a 14-10 score.

The Tornados continued to keep it close until a 5-0 run from Sully made it 19-12. This run was highlighted by two kills from Mia Bella Ruiz, one each from Canaba and Griner, and an ace from Canaba.

CTX tallied the next two and scoring then went back and forth for a 22-17 lead for the Lobos.

Sully got within a point of taking with match with two CTX attack errors. After a Concordia block, Canaba finished the night with one last kill for a 25-18 score in set four and a four-set win.

Canaba finished with a game-high 25 kills. She complemented that with 22 assists, five digs, three blocks and a service ace.

Kamrynn Caruth led the Lobos with 25 assists and added five digs.

Faith Herrera was also in double digits with 10 digs.

The Lobos improve to 6-4 on the season and 4-2 in conference play. Concordia falls to 1-9 and 1-4.

Sully next plays host to visiting UT Dallas at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24.
