Freshman infielder
Carsen Thor earned multiple baseball honors Tuesday from both D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings.
Thor was named D3baseball.com All-West Region Rookie of the Year and to the Second Team. He was also named to the ABCA/Rawlings West All-Region Second Team.
The 2021 season marks the ninth year that D3baseball.com has named All-Region teams, with 940 players nominated. The ballot was then made available to D3baseball.com staff and contributors from which three teams in each region were determined.
The 2021 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-Region teams and Regional Players of the Year have been announced in all eight regions. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America Committee.
Thor was named American Southwest Conference Newcomer of the Year and to the All-Conference First Team after an impressive freshman campaign at Sul Ross.
He led the Lobos in several statistical categories with a .379 average, 50 hits, and 43 RBI. He was tied in runs scored with 32 and was second-best in home runs with seven and total bases with 80.
His 43 runs batted in were good for second-best in the ASC.
Thor began his Sul Ross career with an ASC Hitter of the Week nod on February 17 after hitting .625 (5-for-8) with six RBI, five runs scored and a 1.000 slugging percentage in a two-game sweep of University of Dallas.
Sul Ross' last D3baseball.com honor came in 2019 when
Tim Johnson was named to the All-West Region First Team and eventually the All-American First Team.
Like Thor in 2021, Johnson was also ASC Newcomer of the Year and a First Team All-Conference choice in 2019.
