AUSTIN, Texas - After a back and forth first half, Concordia took a slim lead to the break and never looked back in an 86-73 win over the Lobos.
The Tornados held a pair of early two-point leads before
Trey Nelson hit a jumper and
Omar Boone followed with a triple for a 7-4 lead.
Tristen Licon finished the 7-0 answer with a jumper for a 9-4 lead at 15:49.
Concordia answered with three straight triples for a four-point lead, but Boone and Nelson came back with a pair of free throws and a layup respectively for a 13-13 tie at the 13:12 mark of the first half.
After a Tornado layup,
Carson Perkins sank a three for a 16-15 lead at 12:34.
Sully had an answer for anything CTX threw at them in the first half. Concordia went up 18-16 and
Julian Paredes tied it with a layup. The Tornados then went ahead 20-18 and Boone responded with a layup. CTX then went on to have a pair of four-point leads and Licon sank back-to-back triples to take a 29-27 lead at 4:17.
It was at that point that Concordia finally had an answer and was able to sustain a lead, outscoring the Lobos 13-6 the rest of the first half for a 40-35 lead at the break.
The Tornados jumped out to a nine-point lead to the start the second half with a pair of layups.
After
Jezreel Griffin cut it to six with a triple, CTX took their first double-digit lead of 49-38 at 16:31.
Sully was able to cut it to nine twice, but the Tornados eventually upped it to as many as 23 at 6:11 with a 78-55 lead.
The Lobos fought back and trimmed the deficit to 11 with 2:17 left after a 16-4 run made it 82-71. They'd come within 11 once more at 1:22 before the clock struck zero on an 86-73 Concordia win.
Licon finished with team-highs of 20 points and seven rebounds.
Boone had a nice night with 15 points and six rebounds off the bench.
Carson Perkins was also in double digits with 11 points and Paredes added 10 and five rebounds.
Sully finishes the regular season with a 9-11 record and 7-8 in ASC play. The Tornados end with a 5-6 record and 4-6 in conference.
The Lobos enter the conference tournament as the #3 seed in the West Division and will take on Hardin-Simmons on Wednesday, March 10 in Abilene.
