BELTON, Texas - Men's hoops led early in the first half but could never regain the lead once losing it in a 95-71 road loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The Lobos started the game up 5-0 after
Julian Paredes hit a triple and a layup.
UMHB quickly retook the lead with a 7-0 run before
Trey Nelson answered with a three-pointer at 17:56 for an 8-7 advantage.
The Crusaders responded with a small 5-0 run, but Paredes cut it back to one with a triple at 16:02.
UMHB sported a pair of three-point leads before Paredes hit another triple at 12:26 for an 18-18 tie.
Sully answered a three-pointer from UMHB with a jumper from
Omar Boone to trail 21-20 at 11:28.
The Crusaders eventually grew their lead to 14 at 4:13 before
Tristen Licon and Nelson hit back-to-back threes to cut it to 39-31 at 3:23.
A quick 4-0 answer from UMHB put Sully behind 12, but the Lobos came back with a 5-0 run to finish the half. It started with a pair of free throws from Boone and one from Nelson before Licon hit a jumper with 45 seconds left to trail 43-36 at the break.
Licon started the second half with a jumper to cut it to five, but the Lobos quickly fell behind after a 10-0 run by the Crusaders made it 53-38 at 17:42.
UMHB expanded their lead to 26 five times over the next 8:02 before taking an 82-53 lead with 8:10 left.
Sully used a 14-1 run over the next 3:51 to trail 83-67 with 4:11 remaining. Nelson started it with a triple and a pair of free throws before Boone hit a jumper.
Jezreel Griffin followed with a jumper after a Cru free throw. Nelson then followed with a layup. He was fouled on the make and hit the free throw to cut it to 16.
UMHB was quick to respond and finished the second half on a 12-4 run for a 95-71 win.
Nelson finished with team-highs of 18 points and three steals.
Paredes added 14 points and six rebounds.
Boone was also in double digits with 10 points and five boards.
Licon had a team-high eight rebounds to go with nine points.
The Lobos fall to 9-10 on the season and 7-7 in conference play. UMHB improves to 15-3 and 12-0.
Sully concludes their regular season Saturday on the road in Austin at 5:30 p.m. against Concordia.
