Lobos split with Hardin-Simmons in final home matches of season #SRSU | #ASCvb | #d3vb

ALPINE, Texas - Volleyball concluded the home portion of its season at the Gallego Center on Tuesday night with a 3-1 win in match one and 3-1 loss in match two against Hardin-Simmons.

Match One - SRSU 3 HSU 1
(25-19, 18-25, 25-1425-20)

Set 1:
HSU started with the first point, which started a back and forth in scoring until the Lobos scored two in a row on an attack error then and a kill by Daniella Garcia for a 4-3 lead.

The Cowgirls scored the next two before Sully used a 4-1 run to take an 8-6 lead. It saw a kill each from Isabella Ruiz, Kyleigh Mulanax, and Loren Garcia.

HSU tied it 8-8, but a 6-0 run from the Lobos put them ahead 14-8. This run saw two kills by Loren Garcia and one from Annika Canaba for the six-point lead.

The next twelve points of the set were swapped evenly between teams for a 20-14 Sully lead.

Sully saw the Cowgirls cut it to four on three different occasions down the stretch but allowed them no closer as Mia Bella Ruiz and Isabella Ruiz finished the set with a kill each for a 25-19 win in set one.

Set 2:
The Lobos held an early 3-2 lead after a Canaba kill and an attack error before HSU used a 4-0 run to lead 6-3.

Sully cut it to one with a small 3-1 answer on HSU attack errors.

HSU scored the next four but saw that cut to 12-10 with three kills from Daniella Garcia during a 4-1 run.

The Cowgirls continued to hold the slim lead and eventually upped it to 21-14.

The final eight points of the match were even for both sides for a 25-18 win for HSU in set two.

Set 3:
Canaba started the third set with a pair of service aces for a 2-0 lead.

After HSU tied it 3-3, the Lobos retook the lead on a service error and then upped it to 5-3 on an ace from Tatyana Colon.

The Cowgirls took their first lead of the set with a 4-1 answer to lead 7-6.

Sully then got the offense going with 7-1 answer to lead by five. Canaba added three kills during the stretch and Daniella Garcia added another.

The Lobos used that run to keep the momentum throughout the third set and outscored the Cowgirls 12-6 the rest of the way for a 25-14 set three win.

Set 4:
Sully took an early 2-0 lead before Daniella Garcia made it 3-1 with a kill.

HSU answered with a 5-1 run to lead 6-4.

The Lobos came back with a kill from Loren Garcia, an ace from Vivian Moya, and a kill by Canaba for a 7-6 advantage.

Both sides swapped leads once before the Cowgirls went on a 5-0 run for a 14-10 lead.

The lead was short-lived after Sully used their own 5-0 run to go ahead 15-14.

HSU tied it twice over the next seven total points, but the Lobos finished the fourth set on a 7-2 run for a 25-20 win and 3-1 match victory. Annika Canaba provided three kills during the final stretch.

Canaba finished with her fourth triple-double of the season. She had game-high 17 kills with 15 assists and 10 digs. She also added three aces.

Vivian Moya had two service aces and came away with a double-double after providing 15 assists and 13 digs.

Mia Bella Ruiz finished with a team-high 15 digs.


Match Two - HSU 3 SRSU 1
(14-25, 19-25, 25-16, 23-25)

Set 1:
The Lobos took an early 2-0 lead on a kill by Canaba and an attack error by the Cowgirls.

HSU quickly responded with a 16-1 run to take control.

Sully cut it to 10 with a late 5-1 run but fell 25-14 on the next point.

Set 2:
The Cowgirls took a 2-0 advantage before a 3-1 run tied the set at 3-3. Canaba provided back-to-back kills to finish the small run.

HSU extended their lead to 5-3 with a 4-0 answer.

Sully cut it to two with a 4-1 response that saw a kill each from Mia Bella Ruiz and Daniella Garcia for a 9-7 score.

HSU continued to hold a slim lead throughout the set and extended it to as many as six on their way to a 25-19 win in set two.

Set 3:
The Lobos answered a kill with one by Loren Garcia and then an attack error from the Cowgirls for a 2-1 lead.

HSU came back with four of the next five for a 6-3 lead.

Sully used a small 3-0 run to tie it 6-6 with help from a kill by Canaba and an ace from Loren Garcia.

The Cowgirls again took a small lead with a 5-1 run to go up 11-7.

A 7-1 answer from the Lobos gave them their second lead of the set at 14-12. It saw a pair of aces from Colon and a kill by Isabella Ruiz.

Sully went on to double their lead with an immediate 4-2 run for an 18-14 advantage.

HSU scored the next two, but the Lobos swiftly responded with the last seven of the set that was capped by a kill from Mia Bella Ruiz for a 25-16 win in set three. Canaba and Daniella Garcia added a kill each during the run and Loren Garcia added two aces.

Set 4:
HSU got out to a 2-0 advantage before the Lobos scored the next four for the lead.

The Cowgirls quickly took the lead back with a 6-1 answer and an 8-5 advantage.

Sully scored the next three for the tie with kills by Mulanax and Loren Garcia for an 8-8 score.

The next six points of the set went back-and forth for an 11-11 tie.

HSU then scored the next three for a 14-11 lead.

The Cowgirls continued to hold at least a two-point lead down the stretch until a late 3-0 answer from the Lobos cut it to 24-23. HSU was able to avoid the tie and took the final set 25-23 with a kill for a 3-1 victory in match two.

Canaba led Sully in both kills and assists with 13 and 16 respectively. She also notched eight digs and two more service aces.

Mia Bella Ruiz led the Lobos with 14 digs and added six kills.

The Lobos stand at 6-8 on the season and in ASC play. HSU moves to 4-12 and 4-10.

Sully concludes their regular season on Tuesday, April 6 in Abilene with a rematch against Hardin-Simmons.
