ABILENE, Texas - Volleyball fell 3-0 in match one before dropping match two in a five set battle against Hardin-Simmons to conclude their season.
Match One - HSU 3 SRSU 0
(20-25, 21-25, 19-25)
Set 1:
The Cowgirls started the set on a 4-1 run.
Sully came back with the next four to take a 5-4 lead. It included three attack errors and a kill by
Isabella Ruiz to give the Lobos their first advantage of the set.
The next two points went between both teams with
Loren Garcia notching a kill from an
Annika Canaba assist for a 6-5 lead.
HSU scored the next four to retake a 9-6 lead.
Sully remained close, getting within two on six occasions before tying it 16-16 with a 4-0 run.
The Cowgirls responded with the next eight points to take a 24-16 lead.
Canaba started a 4-0 run with a kill. The next three included on two attack errors and a service ace from
Faith Herrera for a 24-20 score.
HSU finished the set on a service ace for a 25-20 win in set one.
Set 2:
The Cowgirls came out with the first four in set two for the lead.
Sully got one a block and then a kill by
Mia Bella Ruiz to cut it in half at 4-2.
The Lobos cut it to one again with two in a row on block assists by Canaba and
Mia Bella Ruiz and then a ball handling error to trail 6-5.
After a kill from the Cowgirls,
Daniella Garcia answered with a kill before a bad set from HSU for a 7-7 tie.
HSU proceeded to go on a 4-1 run for an 11-8 advantage.
Sully finished a small 3-1 answer with a kill from Canaba to cut it to 12-11.
The Cowgirls upped their lead to eight with 7-0 run for a 19-11 advantage.
The next four points went between both sides before Sully went on a 6-1 run. It started with a pair of attack errors before an ace from
Mia Bella Ruiz. After HSU scored,
Isabella Ruiz notched a kill before an ace from
Tatyana Colon. The run ended with a ball handling error by the Cowgirls for a 23-19 score.
HSU was able to score three of the next five to take a 25-21 win in set two.
Set 3:
The Lobos answered a 3-0 HSU start with three of their own to tie things early.
Loren Garcia finished with a service ace for the 3-3 score.
HSU scored the next two and briefly held the lead until back-to-back kills by Canaba and
Mia Bella Ruiz made it 6-6.
The Lobos again made up a small deficit after a service error and attack error by the Cowgirls tied things 8-8.
HSU broke things open with eight of the next nine for a 16-9 lead.
Sully later cut it to three with a 5-0 run for a 21-18 score.
The Cowgirls finished the set with four of the last five to take it 25-19 and sweep the set.
Canaba and
Vivian Moya tied for a team-high 10 assists.
Colon led the Lobos with 12 digs.
Match Two - HSU 3 SRSU 2

Set 1:
The Cowgirls started with a 5-1 run before
Loren Garcia started a 3-0 run with a kill to eventually trail 5-4.
Sully erased an 11-7 deficit with an 8-0 run. It saw a kill each from
Kyleigh Mulanax,
Daniella Garcia, and
Isabella Ruiz for a 15-11 lead.
HSU cut it to one with a 3-0 answer before the Lobos went ahead 18-15 on a kill by Mulanax to finish their own 3-1 run.
The Lobos continued to hold small leads but eventually saw a tie at 22-22.
Mia Bella Ruiz put Sully ahead with a kill before the Cowgirls came back with one for a 23-23 tie.
Daniella Garcia put the Lobos within one of taking the match before an HSU attack error gave Sully the 25-23 win in set one.
Set 2:
Annika Canaba started the set with a kill before an attack error made it 2-0. Canaba soon notched another kill after a Cowgirls kill for a 3-1 lead.
HSU tied it 3-3 with the next two before committing a service error to give Sully a 4-3 advantage.
Each side swapped the next three before
Mia Bella Ruiz gave Sully the lead on a kill. That was followed by a Cowgirls attack error for a 7-5 advantage for the Lobos.
Sully held slight leads from there until they upped it to 12-8 after a 3-0 run.
HSU quickly answered with a 6-1 run to take a 14-13 advantage.
Moya assisted a kill from Canaba to put a stop to the previous run and tie it at 14-14.
The Cowgirls scored the next two before back-to-back kills by
Isabella Ruiz and Mulanax made it 16-16.
A small 4-2 run for the Lobos gave them a 20-18 lead. It saw kills from
Daniella Garcia and
Isabella Ruiz and an ace from Colon.
The next six points bounced back and fourth for a 23-21 lead for the Lobos.
HSU went on to score the final four points of the set for a 25-23 win in set two.
Set 3:
The Cowgirls started with the first two before a service error and a bad set gave Sully the next two for a 2-2 tie.
HSU scored four of the next five for a 6-3 advantage that eventually stretched to 8-4.
Mia Bella Ruiz cut it to three with a kill before the Cowgirls scored the next four for a 12-5 score.
The Lobos brought it back to five with a 3-1 answer before falling behind 16-8 after a 3-0 HSU response.
Sully brought it to four with a 5-1 run. It saw a pair of block assists from
Loren Garcia and
Isabella Ruiz before an eventual kill by
Loren Garcia for a 17-13 score.
The Cowgirls wouldn't let their lead get any closer on the way to a 25-18 win in set three.
Set 4:
HSU opened the set with an 11-3 run out of the gate.
The Lobos responded with the next five that included an
Isabella Ruiz kill to trail 11-8.
Sully turned a 14-10 deficit into a 16-15 lead with a 6-1 run. Canaba notched another pair of kills and Herrera added a service ace during the stretch.
The Cowgirls tied it with the next point before a 3-0 Lobos answer with two Canaba service aces made it 19-16.
Sully held the lead until HSU used a 4-1 run to tie things at 20-20.
The Lobos came back with three of their own with the help of a service error and an attack error before Mulanax made it 23-20 with a kill.
It became a one-point game with the Cowgirls scoring the next two before
Isabella Ruiz and Canaba finished with back-to-kills to take set four by a 25-22 score.
Set 5:
Danielle Gomez started the fifth set with an ace before
Mia Bella Ruiz made it 2-0 with a kill.
HSU came back with the next three to take a 3-2 advantage.
Canaba was quick to answer with a kill for a 3-3 tie.
The Cowgirls retook the lead with a 3-0 run for a 6-3 advantage.
Canaba notched another kill to cut it to two, but it became 8-4 after two in a row from HSU.
Sully trimmed it to 8-5 with another Canaba kill before the Cowgirls scored the next three for an 11-5 score.
An HSU service error followed by a service ace from
Loren Garcia cut it to 11-7. It was the closest the Lobos would come again after the Cowgirls finished the set on a 4-1 run to take it 15-8 for a 3-2 match win.
Canaba notched her fifth triple-double of the season with 16 kills, 15 digs, and 14 assists. She continues to lead the nation in triple-doubles on the season.
Isabella Ruiz added 11 kills and Moya had 13 assists.
Loren Garcia and Colon added 15 and 13 digs respectively.
The Lobos finish the regular season 6-10 and 6-10 in conference play.
