Lobos split doubleheader with McMurry on Senior Night #SRSU | #ASCvb | #d3vb

ALPINE, Texas - Volleyball celebrated two seniors on Saturday and also came away with a doubleheader split with McMurry.

Scores were 3-2 for the Lobos and then 3-2 for the War Hawks.

Seniors included Isabella Ruiz and Elizabeth Diaz.

Match One - SRSU 3 MCM 2
(16-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-18, 15-8)

Set 1:
The Lobos got out to an early 2-0 lead on an attack error followed by a service ace from Faith Herrera.

McMurry came back with a 3-0 run before Annika Canaba notched a kill off an assists from Vivian Moya for a 3-3 tie.

The War Hawks went on to hold slim leads until a 5-0 run put them ahead 12-6.

Sully came back with the next two on an attack error before a service ace from Moya to trail 12-8.

McMurry answered with three in a row to lead 15-8.

Sully cut their deficit to five with a 5-2 run but went on to trail 23-13 after a 6-1 answer from the War Hawks.

The Lobos scored the next three with kills from Isabella Ruiz and Loren Garcia before an attack error, but McMurry finished the set with the last two to take it 25-24.

Set 2:
The War Hawks started set two with the first three before a kill from Canaba and an ace from Herrera cut it to 3-2.

Neither side took real control of the set with McMurry holding slim leads or it being tied.

Sully took their first lead of the second set after a 3-0 run made it 16-14. It started with an attack error before a Canaba service ace gave the Lobos the lead. A McMurry ball handling error proceeded that to give Sully a 16-14 advantage.

The War Hawks quickly tied it before a 4-1 run put Sully ahead 20-17. Isabella Ruiz added two kills and Canaba had another.

McMurry cut it to one three times down the stretch, but the Lobos finished the set on a 3-0 run with a kill from Mia Bella Ruiz and two attack errors for a 25-21 win in set two.

Set 3:
The Lobos started set three on a 3-1 run but quickly saw that tied 3-3.

After going ahead 5-4 on kills from Daniella Garcia and Mia Bella Ruiz, McMurry used a 5-0 run to lead 9-5.

Sully went down as many as five but continued to chip away at the lead and brought it to a 16-15 deficit.

McMurry was able to up their lead back to four, but Sully used a 4-0 run to tie it 19-19.

The Lobos were unable to do better than tie things down the stretch as McMurry ended the set with a 4-1 run for a 25-22 set three win.

Set 4:
Loren Garcia still started with two kills before Canaba notched another for a 3-0 lead.

After McMurry scored their first point, Sully used a 5-0 run to lead 8-1.

Sully continued to hold a sizable lead and eventually upped it to 11 after a 5-1 run. Loren Garcia started with a kill before a Moya service ace. Canaba later had another kill before a ball handling error and attack error from the War Hawks made it 20-9.

The Lobos eventually got to to 24-12, but McMurry made it closer with a 6-0 run for a 24-18 score.

Sully rebounded with a kill by Loren Garcia off a Canaba assist for a 25-18 win in set four.

Set 5:
The Lobos took control of set five with a 6-0 run to start. Loren Garcia had the first three kills before one from Mia Bella Ruiz made it 4-0. After an attack error, Loren Garcia came back with another kill for a 6-0 lead.

McMurry cut it to four before an attack error and a service ace from Loren Garcia made it 9-4.

The final set tightened to 11-8 with a small 4-2 answer from the War Hawks.

Daniella Garcia started with a kill before a block from Isabella Ruiz and Kyleigh Mulanax. After a bad set, Daniella Garcia and Mulanax finished it off with a block to take it 15-8 and 3-2 for the match.

Canaba finished with 11 kills, a game-high 23 assists and added nine digs.

Tatyana Colon had a team-high 22 digs and added eight assists.

Loren Garcia and Mia Bella Ruiz each had 11 kills.

Match Two - MCM 3 SRSU 2
(28-26, 21-25, 18-25, 25-2315-10)

Set 1:
Sully opened the set with the first two on a kill by Loren Garcia and an attack error before McMurry responded with two for a 2-2 tie.

Both sides held slim leads until the Lobos used a 5-0 run for a 12-9 advantage that saw a kill each from Daniella Garcia and Loren Garcia.

McMurry mirrored Sully again with a 5-0 run of their own for a 14-12 advantage.

The Lobos were quick to turn it around with a 6-1 run. Loren Garcia started with a kill and was later followed with two from Canaba and one from Isabella Ruiz.

McMurry came back with the next four for a slim 19-18 lead.

Sully quickly flipped it with a 3-0 run to go back ahead 21-19.

The War Hawks tied it with the next two before the Lobos scored the next three to lead 24-21.

McMurry scored the next four to take a 25-24 lead.

Sully and the War Hawks swapped the next two points before Isabella Ruiz capped a 3-0 run with a kill for a 28-26 win in set one.

Set 2:
The Lobos started with the first five of the set with two kills from Loren Garcia and one each from Canaba and Mulanax.

McMurry slowly chipped away at the early deficit and eventually tied it at 9-9.

Sully took a slim 11-9 lead on back-to-back attack errors but never led by more than two and the War Hawks eventually drew a 14-14 tie.

McMurry took their first lead of the set during a 9-3 run and led 23-18 on their way to a 25-21 win in set two.

Set 3: 
The Lobos took their first lead of the game at 4-3 on a Herrera service ace.

Slim leads were found on both sides before McMurry extended theirs to four after a 4-0 run to lead 18-14.

The War Hawks were able to control the pace the remainder of the set and took it 25-18 for a 2-1 lead in the second match.

Set 4:
Moya added a service ace after an attack error by McMurry for a 2-0 lead in set four.

The War Hawks came back with a small 4-1 run for their first lead of the set at 4-3.

Sully broke things open from there with an 11-1 run. It saw a kill each rom Loren Garcia, Isabella Ruiz, and Daniella Garcia. Canaba also added two services aces for a 14-5 lead,

McMurry answered back with a 6-2 run for a 15-11 score.

The Lobos upped it back to seven with three in a row before the War Hawks responded with an 8-3 run to trail 21-19

Sully held a slim lead to the final point of the set and forced a fifth set after a kill by Loren Garcia for a 25-23 win in set four.

Set 5:
Sully scored three of the first four on kills from Isabella Ruiz, Mulanax, and Loren Garcia for a 3-1 lead.

McMurry came back with the next four for a 5-3 lead.

The War Hawks upped their lead to three before Canaba and Isabella Ruiz's back-to-back kills coupled with a ball handling error made it 7-7.

McMurry retook a 10-7 lead with the next three points.

An attack error then cut Sully's deficit to 10-8.

The Lobos got to within two again on another attack error by the War Hawks for an 11-9 score.

McMurry took control of the rest of the set with a 4-1 finish to take set five 15-10 and a 3-2 win in match two.

Canaba notched her third triple-double of the season with 10 kills, 23 assists, and 12 digs,

Moya had a team-high 24 assists and added 16 digs for a double-double.

Mia Bella Ruiz also had a double-double with 11 kills and a team-high 21 digs.

The Lobos stand at 5-7 on the season and in conference. McMurry is 12-4 and 12-4.

Sully's next matches come at the Gallego Center on Tuesday, March 30 against Hardin-Simmons.
