JACKSON, Mississippi - Baseball settled for a doubleheader split Friday with a 7-3 win in game one before falling 7-6 in game two against Belhaven.
Game One: Lobos 7 - Blazers 3
Carsen Thor got the offense going in the top of the first with a single to left that scored
Jalen Benton to start a three-run inning.
Jared Lorenz later singled home
Jorge Marquez before and
Richard Bailey sent a sacrifice fly to center field to score Thor for a 3-0 advantage.
Isaiah started with a shutout inning in the first to hold the lead.
Moya's offense repaid him with two in the second on a Marquez single to left.
Jett Hartley and
Isaac Aleman scored to make it 5-0.
The righty starter took to the mound again and threw another shutout inning to keep the five-run lead going to the third.
Belhaven got on the board in the third with a solo home run to make it 5-1. They inched closer with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 5-3 game heading to the fifth.
Tye Lindsey extended the lead to three with a sacrifice fly to right in the fifth that scored Benton. Hartley upped it to four in the sixth with a fielder's choice to score Bailey for a 7-3 lead.
After getting in some trouble in the middle innings, Moya pitched shutout frames in the fifth and sixth for a strong six-inning performance.
Sam Russell relieved Moya for the seventh and got the Blazers in order to secure the 7-3 win.
Benton and Marquez finished with two hits each.
Moya finished with four strikeouts and no walks over his six innings of work.
Game Two: Blazers 7 - Lobos 6
The Blazers used a combination of a run in each of the first three innings and four shutout innings on the mound for a 3-0 lead heading to the fifth.
Sully got within one on a
Matthew Wheeler two-run home run in the top of the fifth. Bailey scored on the dinger to trail 3-2.
Belhaven answered with three in the bottom of the inning to up their lead to 6-2.
After a scoreless sixth for both sides, Bailey plated himself and
Tye Lindsey with a two-run shot to trail 6-4 in the seventh.
The Blazers again had an answer in the bottom of the inning with a run to lead 7-4.
Isaac Aleman gave life to a Sully rally with a two-run home run to left that also scored Wheeler for a 7-6 game with one out in the ninth.
Jalen Benton then reached on an error to put the tying run on first. Marquez unfortunately then ended the game with a 5-4-3 double play for a 7-6 Belhaven win and a doubleheader split.
Bailey and Wheeler collected two hits and two runs each.
Bailey, Wheeler, and Aleman each had two RBI.
The Lobos move to 5-12 on the season and 2-9 in conference. Belhaven stands at 14-6 and 9-2.
Sully and the Blazers finish their series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in Jackson.
