Lobos swept by Tornados in straight matches #SRSU | #ASCvb | #d3vb

AUSTIN, Texas - Volleyball fell in back-to-back road matches on Tuesday to Concordia, 3-0 and 3-0.

Match One - CTX 3 SRSU 0
(15-25, 21-25,15-25)

Set 1:
Both sides swapped the first three points before a bad set and then a kill by Loren Garcia gave the Lobos a 3-2 lead.

CTX tied the game on the next point, but Daniella Garcia retook the lead on a kill from a Vivian Moya assist for a 4-3 score.

Daniella Garcia again gave Sully a lead with another kill to break a 4-4 tie.

The Tornados took the lead back with two in a row before an attack error tied the set at 6-6.

CTX retook the lead again with a 5-0 run before a Kyleigh Mulanax kill ended the run from an Annika Canaba assist for an 11-7 score.

Down six, an attack error and then a kill from Canaba cut it to 13-9.

The Tornados answered with five of the next six before the Lobos responded with four in a row to cut it to four. Canaba and Daniella Garcia started the run with kills before back-to-back attack errors by CTX made it an 18-14 game.

CTX controlled the rest of set one with a 7-1 finish to take it 25-15.

Set 2:
Canaba opened set two with a kill off a Moya assist for a 1-0 lead.

The Tornados answered with the next three before a service error and a kill by Daniella Garcia made it 3-3.

Soon down 5-3, the Lobos used a 4-1 run to retake the lead. Mia Bella Ruiz started with a kill to cut it to one. After CTX responded with a point, Sully came back with three straight kills with two by Daniella Garcia and one by Isabella Ruiz for a 7-6 lead.

CTX responded with a 5-0 run for an 11-7 lead.

Both sides swapped the next six points that led to two in a row from the Tornados for a 15-10 score.

The Lobos answered swiftly with the next four to cut it to one. It started with an attack error before Daniella Garcia notched another kill off an assist by Loren Garcia. The run ended with back-to-back attack errors to trail 15-14.

Eight points shifted between sides thereafter until Concordia took a 21-18 lead with two in a row.

Sully scored the next three on a kill by Loren Garcia, a bad set, and a service ace by Faith Herrera for a 21-21 tie.

The Tornados answered back with the final four points for a 25-21 win in set two.

Set 3:
After CTX scored the first point of the set, Sully came back with the next three for a 3-1 lead.

Canaba upped their lead two again with a kill off a Danielle Gomez assist for a 4-2 advantage.

CTX put up the next two before a service error gave the Lobos another lead at 5-4.

Elizabeth Diaz tied the game again at 6-6 with a kill on an assist from Canaba.

The Tornadoes scored the next two before a Daniella Garcia kill off another assist from Canaba cut it to 8-7.

CTX widened their lead with a 10-0 run for an 18-7 lead.

Sully answered with four of the next five to cut it to eight. Isabella Ruiz started with a kill before a service ace from Gomez. After a Sully attack error, Isabella Ruiz and Canaba notched kills to trail 19-11.

Scoring was about even the rest of the way with a slight 6-4 advantage for the Tornados for a 25-15 win in set three and a 3-0 match win for Concordia.

Daniella Garcia finished with a team-high 11 kills.

Canaba had seven kills with a team-high nine assists and added seven digs.

Mia Bella Ruiz led the Lobos with nine digs and added three kills.

Match Two - CTX 3 SRSU 0
(13-25, 24-26,14-25)

Set 1:
CTX started with the first two points before a 3-1 run for the Lobos tied it at 3-3. Canaba started with a kill. After a service error by the Lobos, Canaba notched another kill before Moya's kill made it 3-3.

Sully took their first lead of the set with two straight on a Canaba kill and then a service ace for a 5-4 lead.

The Tornados scored the next two before a service error made it 6-6. Another service error from CTX after a kill tied things at 7-7.

CTX put the next four on the board as the start of a bigger 9-1 run for a 16-8 advantage.

After another offensive burst from the Tornados, Daniella Garcia notched a pair of kills during a quick 3-0 to cut it to 24-13.

The Tornados answered with the next point for a 25-13 win in set one.

Set 2:
Sully trailed 2-0 but used a 4-1 run for a 4-3 advantage. Loren Garcia started with back-to-back kills before Canaba did the same to take the lead.

After a 4-4 tie, two straight CTX attack errors made it a 6-4 lead for the Lobos. That was the start of an eventual 5-1 run to make it 9-5. The last three of the run saw a pair of attack errors between a kill from Daniella Garcia.

The Tornados cut it to 9-7, but another attack error and then a kill from Isabella Ruiz upped Sully's lead to 11-7.

Five unanswered followed from CTX to take a 12-11 lead.

Loren Garcia ended that run, but the Lobos fell behind 14-12 with two in a row from the Tornados.

Sully was able to tie it at 15-15 with a 3-1 answer but again fell behind by one after a block. That led to a service error from the Tornados made it 16-16.

Concordia took the lead as both sides swapped the next six points. The sixth point was for the Lobos for a 18-18 tie on a kill by Isabella Ruiz before an attack error gave Sully a 19-18 lead.

CTX retook the lead with the next two but quickly fell behind 23-20 on a 4-0 answer from the Lobos. Mulanax started with a kill before an attack error by the Tornados. Moya then served up an ace before another attack error by Concordia gave the Sully the three-point lead.

The Lobos held a slim one-point lead after two in a row from Concordia and upped it back to two on a kill by Mia Bella Ruiz for a 24-22 advantage.

The Tornados called a timeout and came out of it with the next four points for a 26-24 win in set two.

Set 3:
The Lobos held slim one-point leads or it was tied over the first seven points of the set before Isabella Ruiz made it a 5-3 lead with a kill.

CTX cut it back to one, but back-to-back kills from Mia Bella Ruiz and Mulanax gave Sully a 7-4 advantage.

The Tornados tied the set with the next three before Daniella Garcia retook an 8-7 lead with a kill from a Gomez assist.

Another three from Concordia gave them the lead this time at 10-8. Isabella Ruiz cut it to one, but the Tornados then upped their lead to 12-9.

The Lobos were able to limit Concordia twice more to two-point answers with a point of their own, but a 4-0 run put the Tornados ahead 20-12. They went on to score five of the last seven from there for a 25-14 win in set three and 3-0 match win over Sully.

Canaba led the way for the Lobos in kills with 10, adding eight assists and eight digs.

Mia Bella Ruiz finished with a team-high 15 digs in the match.

Moya added 12 assists and Tatyana Colon finished with 12 digs.

Sully stands at 4-6 on the season and in conference play. Concordia improves to 8-2 and 8-2.

The Lobos next play host to McMurry for a pair of matches on Saturday, March 27.
