Lobos fall short on road to LeTourneau #SRSU | #ASChoops | #d3hoops

LONGVIEW, Texas - Men's hoops led a majority of the first half but couldn't overcome a halftime deficit in a 67-58 Thursday night loss to LeTourneau.

"It was a dog fight," said head coach Xavier Webb. "Both teams locked in defensively, unfortunately we couldn't answer a late LeTourneau run. It was a good learning experience as we face another tough conference opponent in UT Dallas."

First Half
The Lobos led by as many as seven after a 7-0 run made it 11-4. Logan Dixon broke the 4-4 tie with a triple and Mitchell Martinez extended the lead with a layup. CJ Jemison and Gabe Sanchez finished the run with free throws for the seven-point advantage. Sully again led by seven after a Julian Paredes jumper, but the YellowJackets responded with an 8-0 run to go ahead 16-15. Both sides took the lead twice more down the stretch with LeTourneau going to the half ahead 28-24.

Second Half
Trey Nelson cut it to two with a layup to start the second, but the Lobos soon fell behind 45-31 near the midway point. Sully was quick to respond with a 15-2 run to trail by one with just over six minutes left. Martinez led the charge with six points during the comeback attempt. LeTourneau answered with the next six and held at least a four-point lead the rest of the way in a 67-58 win over the Lobos.

Stats
Martinez led the Lobos with 14 points and matched Paredes for a team-high six rebounds.

Paredes finished with 11 points and Nelson had 10.

Sully drops to 4-3 and 2-1 in conference. LeTourneau moves to 5-0 and 1-0.

The Lobos now travel to Richardson for a 3:00 p.m. tip against UT Dallas on Saturday.
