JACKSON, Mississippi - Men's hoops turned an early deficit into a close first half but ultimately fell 68-56 to Belhaven.
First Half
Belhaven opened with the first six and eventually expanded it to 14-2. The Lobos then went on a 14-3 run to cut it to one.
Julian Paredes added five and
Mitchell Martinez had four to make it 17-16. The Blazers then upped their lead back to five before Martinez hit a jumper before
Daveone Bass and
Trey Nelson combined for three free throws for a 23-23 tie. Belhaven continued to hold leads with the Lobos tying it twice more before the Blazers took a 31-30 advantage to the break.
Second Half
Paredes sank a three to get the Lobos back to one at 36-35, but the Blazers stretched it back to six twice. Paredes and Martinez then provided two each on a quick 4-0 run to cut it to 43-41. Down six again, Martinez made back-to-back layups to trim it to 54-52 with just over seven minutes left. Belhaven controlled the tempo from there an led by at least five the rest of the way in a 68-56 win.
Stats
Martinez finished with a team-high 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting.
Paredes scored 15 and a had team-high seven rebounds.
Trey Nelson finished with a game-high six assists.
The Lobos fall to 4-7 and 2-5 in the ASC. Belhaven moves to 5-4 and 3-3.
