Lobos punch ticket to conference tournament with senior day sweep of Belhaven #SRSU | #ASCvb | #d3vb

ALPINE, Texas - Volleyball celebrated Annika Canaba and Isabella Ruiz on senior day with a 3-0 sweep of Belhaven to clinch a spot in the conference tournament.

"I am super proud of this team," said head coach Troy Canaba. "They have put in the work all year, they are a fun team to watch and are a lot of fun watch and coach. This is one proud coach! Love this team!"

This is the first tournament appearance for the Lobos since 2006. Sully is currently 10-6 in conference, behind UT Dallas at 11-4 and Mary Hardin-Baylor at 16-1.

Volleyball also honored two seniors including five-year player Isabella Ruiz and four-year starter Annika Canaba.

Set 1:
Belhaven got out to a 9-2 lead and held it until the Lobos tied it at 20-20 with a kill by Daniella Garcia to end a 4-0 run. The Blazers then took a 22-20 lead before Sully finished on a 5-1 run. It started with a Victoria Flores kill and then a Kamrynn Caruth service ace. Annika Canaba then notched a kill before Flores' second of the run. Canaba then put an end to the first set with a kill for a 25-23 win.

Set 2:
The Blazers again set the pace early and didn't trail until back-to-back aces from Flores ended a 3-0 run for a 12-11 lead. It became tied on two occasions before Sully upped it to 16-14. The game saw small leads for each side down the stretch before the Lobos again ended the set on a 5-1 run to take it 25-22. Canaba finished the run with a pair of kills to give Sully the 2-0 lead.

Set 3:
The Lobos set the tone early in set three with the first four and six of the first seven. Belhaven cut it to four before Sully upped their lead to eight with a 4-0 run featuring a kill and two aces from Canaba. The Lobos never looked back in the set, outscoring the Blazers 13-5 the rest of the way to secure the sweep by a 25-9 score in set three.

Tentative stats had Annika Canaba with 14 kills, 10 assists and eight digs.

Kamrynn Caruth finished with 18 assists and seven digs.

The Lobos improve to 14-8 and 10-6 in conference. Belhaven falls to 2-20 and 1-13.

Sully next travels to Longview on Friday, October 29 to take on LeTourneau.
