Volleyball takes down Tornados in four sets #SRSU | #ASCvb | #d3vb

AUSTIN, Texas - Volleyball rattled off three straight after dropping set one to defeat Concordia in four sets on Friday night.

"It was a great win today for our kids," said head coach Troy Canaba. "They battled. Concordia played very hard. We kept pushing and pulled out the win."

Set 1:
Sul Ross stormed out of the gate with the first seven of the match. Kamrynn Caruth supplied to service aces to go with two kills from Annika Canaba and one from Taryn Griner for a 7-0 lead.

The Lobos continued to hold a lead and upped it to eight on three occasions for a 20-12 advantage.

Concordia narrowed it to four at 21-17 before Sully got to set point with a 24-18 lead. The Tornados then used a 7-0 run to flip the script and take a 25-24 advantage. The Lobos scored the next two on a pair of attack errors to lead 26-25. Concordia then tied it with a kill before Daniella Garcia made it 27-26. Sully was unable to put CTX away and fell 29-27 in set one after Concordia scored the final three.

Set 2:
Concordia led 4-1 to start the second set before the Lobos took their first lead at 7-6 with a 6-2 answer. Canaba had two kills and Tatyana Colon added an ace.

The Tornados tied the set on a few occasions, took a 12-11 lead and eventually a 15-12 advantage with a 7-2 run.

Sully's next lead came at 17-16 after a 5-1 run with the help of kills by Isabella Ruiz, Mia Bella Ruiz and Griner.

The score remained close with each side holding slim leads until the Lobos rallied from a 22-20 deficit with a 5-1 run to end the set for a 25-23 win.

Set 3:
The Lobos used a 6-0 run early in the third set for a 7-2 lead. Canaba notched two more kills, Loren Garcia added another and Faith Herrera had two aces to give Sully early momentum.

A sizable advantage lasted throughout for the Lobos as they led 18-10 before finishing the set on a 7-0 run for a 25-10 win in set three.

Set 4:
CTX led 1-0 before Canaba coupled back-to-back kills with a Herrera ace for a 3-1 lead.

The set remained incredibly close with each side holding small leads until Sully used a 6-1 run to go ahead 19-14. Isabella Ruiz, Canaba and Griner notched kills and Colon had another ace to put the Lobos up five. 

Sully continued to hold a small lead that was soon trimmed to 23-22 after a 4-1 answer from Concordia,

Canaba responded with a kill to get it to match point, but Concordia countered with a kill to again cut it to one.

Just a point away, Mia Bella Ruiz solidified the match with a kill for a 25-23 win and four-set victory.

Canaba picked up her seventh double-double of the season with 20 kills and 15 assists. She added four digs, three blocks and an ace.

Caruth finished with a team-high 26 assists and Herrera had a game-high 21 digs.

The Lobos improve to 9-5 on the season and 6-3 in ASC play. Concordia dips to 2-11 and 2-6.

Sully finishes the week in Belton on Saturday with an 11:00 a.m. meeting with Mary Hardin-Baylor.
