Lobos look to ASC Tournament after 77-72 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor #SRSU | #BrandEm | #ASChoops

ALPINE- Sul Ross led most of the second half, but a late Mary Hardin-Baylor rally propelled the Cru to a 77-72 win on the final day of the regular season.

UMHB started the game on a 4-0 run before an Aaron Anderson layup and B.J. Hollis triple put Sully up for the first time less than two minutes into the game.

Both sides swapped one-point leads over the several minutes before the Cru took a three point lead shortly before the 15:00 minute mark of the first half.

The Lobos eventually retook the lead on a Cole Avery four-point play as he was fouled on a made three. His free throw was good for a 16-14 advantage.

Sully continued where Avery left off with four of the next five scored to cap an 8-1 run for a 20-15 lead.

UMHB quickly catapulted back in front with a 9-0 streak for a 24-20 lead just over halfway through the first half.

Both sides held slim leads throughout the remainder of the first half before settling on a 32-32 score at the break.

The Lobos used the majority of the first 10 minutes of the second half on a 20-4 run to lead 52-36.

Sul Ross held the double-digit lead until the Cru cracked single digits with a 9-0 run to trail 57-50 with just over eight minutes left.

Tristen Licon and Brayden Fry responded with a thee-pointer and layup respectively to lead 57-41 halfway through the second.

UMHB cut it to seven but that was quickly quashed with back-to-back triples from Licon for a 63-50 lead with under eight minutes left.

The Cru, still playing for tournament seeding, spent the remainder of the game outscoring the Lobos 27-9 for a 77-72 win to end Sully's eight-game win streak.

Licon finished with a game-high 22 points.

Senior Aaron Anderson scored in double digits with 10.

The Lobos finish the season 16-9 and 13-3 in the ASC. UMHB finishes 15-10 and 7-9.

Men's basketball celebrated five seniors during the game. Giles Gilliam, Aaron Anderson, Cole Avery, Conner Dawson, and B.J. Hollis were all recognized.

Sully now prepares for the ASC Tournament at the Gallego Center. The Lobos are the #1 seed and will take on Louisiana College at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
