ABILENE, Texas - Women's basketball started their season Monday with a 63-55 loss to UT Dallas on day one of the two-day ASC Crossover hosted by McMurry.
The Comets and Lobos played a tight first quarter with a 9-7 UTD lead heading to the second.
Sully came out strong in the second quarter and took a 30-23 lead to the break.
The Comets flipped the script in quarter three, outscoring the Lobos 21-14 for a 44-44 tie heading to the fourth.
UTD, the preseason pick to win the ASC East Division title held true to the prediction, outscoring Sully 19-11 in the fourth for the 63-55 win.
It was a tight contest throughout as the Lobos and Comets were practically even across the board. However, fouls and free throws were the deciding factors in Monday's contest. Sully recorded 23 personal fouls which led to 21 points for UTD from the stripe. The Comets stayed relatively clean with only 12 fouls throughout that yielded only 6 points for the Lobos.
UT Dallas was also strong on the boards with a 35-29 rebound advantage including 18 offensive rebounds.
Jackie Saucedo led Sul Ross with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists after 31 minutes of playing time.
Cassie Hogan was the other double-digit scorer with 10 on the night.
Sully starts the season 0-1 while the Comets start 1-0.
The Lobos have a quick turnaround against East Texas Baptist University at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday to complete the ASC Crossover.
