ABILENE, TX - After a Monday loss to UT Dallas, women's basketball was unable to bounce back against East Texas Baptist Tuesday, falling 83-59 on day two of the ASC Crossover hosted by McMurry.
Down 2-0, Sully answered with a 5-0 run with a
Vania Hampton jumper and
Cassie Hogan three-pointer for a 5-2 lead at 8:44 in the first quarter.
The Lobos held the lead for most of the first quarter and led 19-14 on another Hogan triple at 4:30 to finish a 6-2 run.
The Tigers clawed back in the final minutes of the first and took a 25-23 lead to the second quarter.
An
Alexis Carmosino jumper early in the second tied the game 25-25 before ETBU used an 8-0 run to lead 33-27 at 7:13.
Teresa Quintana ended that run with a triple, but a quick 5-0 run put the Tigers ahead 38-30 at 1:17 and eventually they led 39-33 going to the break.
ETBU extended their lead to 10 early before Carmosino's jumper at 7:57 cut it to 43-35.
The Tigers answered back with a 9-2 run over the next 2:22 to lead by 15 with 5:35 left before the fourth.
The Lobos would see their deficit balloon to 17 before a
Keona Loftis triple with 26 seconds left in the third made it a 57-43 game going to the final quarter.
ETBU extended their lead to 23 over the first 3:38 before an 8-0 Sully run cut it to 15. Carmosino started the run with a jumper and a triple. Quintana then added her own triple for a 67-52 score with 4:32 left.
That would be the closest the Lobos came again as the Tigers came away with the 83-59 win.
Hogan led the way for the Lobos with a team-high 15 points.
Loftis added 13 on 3-5 shooting from beyond the arc.
Quintana was also in double-digits with 12 while Carmosino had 11 and nine rebounds.
Hampton led the way in the paint with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Sully falls to 0-2 on the year. ETBU improves to 3-0.
The Lobos next travel to San Antonio this Saturday for a battle with DI University of the Incarnate Word.
