ABILENE, Texas - The Lobos rode a big second half to put McMurry away for their first win of the season.
Sully came away with a 23-point victory on the road a day after Thanksgiving. Giving some pause to the effects of turkey and Tryptophan as the Lobos surged in the second half to secure the 73-50 win.
It was back-and-forth in the first half and ended in a 32-32 tie.
The defense held McMurry to 18 points in the second half. Meanwhile, the offensive side roared for 41 points.
It was a community effort with
Tristen Licon and
Logan Dixon both contributing 18 points. Licon also poured in a double-double with 13 rebounds, displaying yet another crafty veteran game to seal the win.
The Lobos held McMurry to 29.3% shooting and 56.3% from the free throw line over the course the game.
Sully was able to cash in at the line with a 72.3% clip with Licon going 7-for-7. The biggest difference in the second half was from the field as the Lobos ended shooting just under 43%.
The Sul Ross bench outscored the War Hawks 25-8.
Omar Boone deposited 13 points and went 3-5 from beyond the arc. The rebounding margin was tight but the Lobos were able to balloon that into the 23-point win while their defense kept their lead safe.
The Lobos move to 1-1 while the War Hawks sit at 0-1.
Sully has a quick turnaround as they face Hardin-Simmons on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. before taking on UTEP on Thursday, December 3.
