ABILENE- Men's basketball trailed for a total of seven seconds Saturday in a 90-65 win over McMurry in Abilene.
After a pair of War Hawk free throws,
B.J. Hollis gave the Lobos their first lead with a triple seven seconds later for a 3-2 lead.
Logan Dixon made a layup their next time down the floor and was fouled. His free throw was good for a 6-2 lead.
McMurry then hit a jumper before Sully responded with an 8-0 run for a 14-4 lead.
Brayden Fry started the streak with back-to-back layups, Licon then drained two free throws, and Dixon ended it with a jumper for a 14-6 lead at 16:11.
The War Hawks went on a 7-3 run over the next 2:15 to make it a 16-13 game.
Jezreel Griffin got on the board with a jumper 35 seconds later and two possessions later
Cole Avery was fouled on a made triple for a four-point play and 22-13 lead with 11:38 left in the first half.
The Lobos' largest lead of the half came at 4:46 when Hollis' three-pointer gave Sully a 40-30 lead.
McMurry finished the half on an 8-4 run for a 44-38 Lobo lead at the break.
Jake Lopez and Dixon started scoring with jumpers for another 10-point lead 1:37 into the second half.
Up eight, Hollis and Lopez drained four-straight free throw attempts for a 52-40 lead at 17:28.
A 9-2 War Hawk run brought it to six with 14:24 left.
The Lobos spent the next 4:44 to put McMurry away for good on a 15-0 run. The offensive barrage started with a Griffin triple and Licon layup on back-to-back possessions. Avery later made another from beyond the arc and Dixon sank two free throws the next time down the floor. Hollis sank a three on their next trip before Licon and B.J. finished the run with a pair of free throws each for a 72-49 lead with 9:40 remaining.
The closest the War Hawks came again was 18 as Sully outscored McMurry 18-16 the rest of the way in the 90-65 win.
Licon and Dixon both finished with a game-high 15 points and combined for 12-12 from the free throw line. Licon added five rebounds and a game-high four steals.
Avery shot 5-8 from the floor and 3-5 from three for a 14 point, five rebound game.
Hollis was also in double-digits with 13 points and shot 4-4 from the line.
The Lobos as a team shot 45.3% from the floor (29-64) and 88.5% from the free throw line (23-26).
Sully moves to 8-6 on the year, remains perfect in the ASC at 5-0, and is sporting a four-game winning streak. The War Hawks fall to 6-8 and 2-3.
The Lobos continue their season on the road this Thursday in Longview against LeTourneau.
