KERRVILLE- A balanced offense and defense lifted Lady Lobos volleyball over Schreiner University in four sets Wednesday in Kerrville.
After falling 25-22 in set one, the Lady Lobos bounced back with three straight wins of 29-27, 25-15 and 25-21 for the four set victory.
The Lady Lobos took an early 5-2 lead in set two off an attack error by the Mountaineers.
Schreiner would go on a 4-1 run to tie the set at six before a kill by
Jordan Scherer put the Lady Lobos back up 7-6.
Sully found themselves down 18-12 before a 5-0 run capped by an
Autumn Kilpatrick kill brought the deficit to 18-17.
The Lady Lobos next lead wouldn't come until 22-21 on a Mountaineers attack error.
The set saw six ties and two lead changes down the stretch before
Annika Canaba closed the door on a kill for the 29-27 second set win.
Schreiner opened up set three with an 8-6 advantage before Sully answered back on an attack error, a kill by Canaba, and a service ace and kill by
Hannah Zly to lead it 10-8.
The Mountaineers could only tie the set 11-11 before the Lady Lobos went on a 14-4 run to take the third set 25-15.
Canaba led all Lady Lobos in set three with six kills.
The fourth set saw the Lady Lobos open up scoring with kills by
Isabella Ruiz and Scherer for a 2-0 lead.
Schreiner then mounted a six nothing run to lead 6-2.
The Mountaineers lead would balloon to seven at 16-9 before the Lady Lobos scored three straight on kills by
Asher Haack and Scherer before a Schreiner attack error to bring the deficit to 16-12.
Schreiner answered back with a two quick points to take an 18-12 lead.
The Lady Lobos kicked it into high gear from there by scoring 13 of the next 15 points including Ruiz's match-winning kill to take the fourth set 25-21.
The final 15 point stretch saw three kills apiece by Scherer and Ruiz as the Lady Lobos defeated Schreiner 3-1.
Canaba led the way with 20 kills and a second team best 20 assists. She also added nine digs.
Kylee Davis led in assists with 24.
Ruiz led all defenders with 23 digs while ASC West Defender of the Week
Hannah Zly was close behind with 21.
The Lady Lobos move to 4-1 on the season while the Mountaineers stand at 2-3.
Sully next travels to Sherman this Friday for the start of the Austin College Invitational.
