Dixon shines again, comeback falls short against Schreiner #SRSU | #BrandEm | #ASChoops

KERRVILLE- After scoring a career-high 32 last night, junior Logan Dixon followed that performance with 31 points and 12 rebounds, but the Schreiner Mountaineers outpaced the Lobos Tuesday for an 83-78 win in Kerrville.

Sully jumped out to a quick 4-0 run on back-to-back jumpers from Brayden Fry and Cailen Bond.

The Mountaineers scored five of the next seven before the Lobos used an 11-3 run to go up nine. Fry started the run with a layup, Tristen Licon then drained a three before Dixon's layup put Sully up eight. After a Schreiner three, Dixon and Fry finished the run with back-to-back jumpers for the 17-8 lead with 15:04 left in the first half.

Schreiner proceeded to go on a 14-0 run to lead 22-17 at the 11:02 mark.

Down 25-19, the Lobos closed the deficit to one. Dixon hit a jumper and free throw after the foul. B.J. Hollis followed that with a pair of free throws for a 25-24 game with 6:09 left before the break.

The Mountaineers answered with a 17-4 run to go up 42-28 with just over two minutes left in the first half.

Sully was able to cut it to nine, but a late three gave Schreiner a 45-33 lead heading to the second half.

The Lobos responded quickly in the second half with a 12-3 run to make it a three-point game. Dixon and Licon each scored four during the run while Fry and Bond both added two.

The Mountaineers scored the next four to extend their lead, but Sully came back with a 10-4 run to again trail by one, 56-55, with 8:26 remaining in the game.

Runs became the theme of the second half, as Schreiner answered with a 12-1 spurt to lead 67-57 at the 5:26 mark.

Bond, Dixon and Hollis answered with three-straight triples to cut the Mountaineer lead to 67-66 with 3:37 left.

After a Schreiner layup, Licon stole a pass and took it the other way for a layup to again make it a one-point game.

The Mountaineers were able to use the final two minutes to extend their lead to as many as six. The Lobos were able to trim the deficit to two on three different occasions, but Schreiner converted their final 14 free throws for the 83-78 win.

Dixon finished with a game-high 31 points on 11-17 shooting and 12 rebounds for a new career-high in boards. This is the second-straight game Dixon has scored 30+ after a 32 point performance against Trinity on Monday.

Licon scored 16 points to go with three rebounds and four steals.

Sully falls to 3-4 on the season. The Mountaineers pick up their second win of the season and stand at 2-5.

The Lobos start conference play this Saturday, December 21 in Brownwood with a 3:00 p.m. tip against Howard Payne.
