Lobos fall in 94-78 decision to #20 Whitman #SRSU | #BrandEm | #ASChoops

FOREST GROVE, Oregon- Four Lobos scored in double digits Friday as Sully continued their Oregon road trip with a 94-78 loss to #20 Whitman College.

The Blues broke things open with a 13-0 run to start the game.

Sully used a 6-2 run off a jumper by Conner Dawson and layups from Logan Dixon and Cailen Bond to cut the deficit to 15-6.

Whitman's lead ballooned to 18 before Brayden Fry made a layup and took the contact for a three-point opportunity. He hit the free throw to cut the Blues lead to 34-19. Next possession, Dawson hit a pair of free throws to bring it to within 13. Tristen Licon mimicked Fry with a layup and the foul and converted his free throw to make it a 10 point game. After a made Whitman jumper, Aldon Johnson put in back-to-back layups to finish a 12-2 run as the Lobos trailed 36-28 with 3:54 left in the first half.

Whitman finished the half on a 14-5 run to lead 50-33 at the break.

B.J. Hollis started the second half with a layup to cut the deficit to 15 before the Blues went on a 6-0 run to go back up 21.

Down 19, Bond started an 8-0 run with back-to-back baskets. Hollis and Licon then converted layups on straight possessions to bring it to within 11 with 13:09 left.

Whitman ticked the lead back to 15, but a Licon three and Dixon layup cut the deficit to 68-58 with 10:54 remaining.

The Blues lead would extend as high as 19 and the Lobos could only get it to within 12 the rest of the way in the 94-78 loss.

Licon led all Lobos with 18 points and eight rebounds.

Dawson put in his best performance of the early season with 14 points, six rebounds, and six assists.

Dixon had 13 points and six rebounds while Bond was also in double digits with 10 points and added three steals.

Sully falls to 0-2 on the season. Whitman improves to 3-1.

The Lobos finish their Oregon trip Saturday with a 10:00 p.m. CST tip with Pacific University at the Stoller Center in Forest Grove, OR.
