Cowgirls win in four sets over Lady Lobos #SRSU | #BrandEm | #ASCvb

ABILENE- Sully stayed close throughout, but the Cowgirls of Hardin-Simmons took Thursday's match in four sets over the Lady Lobos.

Scores were 25-20, 25-23, 20-25, and 25-17 in favor of HSU.

Sully kept it close early with 1-1 and 3-3 ties but would never lead in a 25-20 first set loss.

The Lady Lobos led set two 1-0 on an Annika Canaba kill.

The Cowgirls took the lead on a 3-1 run, before Sully tied things 3-3 with another Canaba kill and an attack error.

Down 4-3, Sully used a 4-0 run with kills by Canaba, Kyleigh Mulanax, Asher Haack, and an attack error for a 7-4 lead.

HSU used a 9-3 run to regain the lead at 13-10.

Sul Ross answered back with a 7-3 run to retake the lead at 17-16.

19-18 would be the final lead for the Lady Lobos, as a quick 3-0 Cowgirls run put them back up 21-19.

The Lady Lobos would tie the game 21-21, but HSU edged the Sully 25-23 in set two.

Back-to-back attack errors gave the Lady Lobos a quick 2-0 lead in set three.

The Cowgirls responded with four unanswered for a 4-2 lead.

Sully's first lead of set three came at 8-7 after a 3-0 run ended on a Mulanax kill.

The Lady Lobos used a pair of 4-0 runs to pad their lead. Tied 12-12, Sully scored on back-to-back attack errors and two kills by Canaba for a 16-12 lead. HSU brought it to a 21-20 deficit, but the Lady Lobos ended the set on their second 4-0 run with help of kills by Isabella Ruiz, Jordan Scherer, and Canaba for a 25-20 win in set three.

Set four saw Sully playing from behind after the Cowgirls took an early 2-0 lead.

The Lady Lobos were only able to narrow the deficit to 2-1, as HSU held at least a three point lead throughout in a 25-17 set four win to take the match in four sets.

Canaba notched her seventh triple-double of the season with 17 kills, 10 assists, and 11 digs.

Kylee Davis led all Lady Lobos with 18 assists and Stephanie Diaz led Sully with 22 digs.

The Lady Lobos stand at 11-13 on the year and 4-10 in conference play. The Cowgirls improve to 12-10 and 9-6.

Sully concludes their regular season Friday in Abilene with a 7:00 p.m. match against McMurry.
