Cody Remore notched his seventh win of the season and paced Sul Ross to a 13-6 ASC series-opening victory over Hardin-Simmons Thursday.
The Lobo senior ace surrendered two runs off of six hits but struck out six Cowboy batters after five and two-thirds innings from the hill.
Sully led off the game in the bottom of the first as
Joseph Sanchez homered to left center field.
A single by
Jacob Ochoa in the same inning brought
Jonathon Bigley and
Ryan Almager across for a 3-0 Sul Ross lead.
Bigley then doubled in the next frame scoring Almager and
Wesley Moss and spread the gap, 5-0.
Hardin-Simmons scored a run in their half of the third to pull within four and added another score in the sixth, trailing 5-2.
The Lobos unloaded five runs in the bottom of the sixth as
Ryan Acebedo scored on a throwing error before Moss scored on a wild pitch.
Sanchez then came across off another Cowboy throwing error before Almager scored off an RBI fielder's choice by
Monty Maley.
A sacrifice fly by
Holden Simpson then scored Bigley giving the home squad a comfortable 10-2 lead.
Hardin-Simmons reeled in a run in the top of the seventh before Sully posted a three-run attack in the bottom of the inning.
A single by Maley paired with another defensive miscue by the visitors scored Sanchez, Moss and Acebedo for a 13-3 Sul Ross advantage.
The Cowboys notched three runs in their half of the eighth but could not build the rally as Sully secured the 13-6 win.
The Lobos and Cowboys will close out their three-game series with a Friday doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. from Historic Kokernot Field.
