Sully sweeps Belhaven in Saturday doubleheader

ALPINE, Texas- The Sul Ross State University Lobos completed their series sweep Saturday with a 5-2 and 9-1 doubleheader victory over Belhaven University.

In game one, a double by Guillermo Loera in the Lobo third scored Jacob Pool.

A triple by Wesley Moss then scored Loera and Jett Hartley for a 3-0 Sul Ross lead heading to the fourth.

The Blazers grabbed a run each in the fourth and fifth to pull within one.

Ryan Almager then doubled Wesley Moss across in the bottom of the fifth before a single by Monty Maley scored Almager for a 5-2 Lobo lead and the eventual victory.

Starter Aaron Marquez record the win after five innings while closer Sam Russell posted his first save of the season.

Game two saw the home team double up on the visitors by a 12-6 hitting margin.

Following a scoreless first two innings, Joseph Sanchez scored in the third off a single by Almager.

Sanchez scored again in the fifth off a sacrifice fly by Jonathon Bigley for a 2-0 Lobo lead.

Belhaven cut their deficit in half with a run scored in the top of the seventh before Sully reeled in seven runs in the final two frames to secure the 9-1 victory.
