ALPINE, Texas-
Cody Remore pitched 6.2 innings and recorded his fifth season win and paced Sul Ross to a 12-6 ASC victory over visiting Belhaven Friday night at Kokernot Field.
Remore yielded seven hits but struck out five batters on the evening.
A double by
Ryan Almager in the opening inning scored
Wesley Moss for a 1-0 Lobo lead.
Moss scored again in the third off a throwing error before another double by
Monty Maley plated
Jonathon Bigley, Almager and
Joseph Sanchez.
Jacob Ochoa closed out the third with a double that drove in Maley for a 6-0 Sul Ross lead.
The Blazers lit the board with a run in the top half of the fourth and pulled to within five.
Sanchez then doubled Moss across in the fourth for a 7-1 Lobo advantage.
Belhaven would narrow their deficit to three with three runs scored in the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh, Maley lined out to left field but brought Almager across extending Sully's lead to four, 8-4.
The visitors threatened with a two-run, top of the eighth and trailed by two.
Sul Ross added four insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth as Bigley, Sanchez and Moss scored on a single by Maley and an infield throwing error.
Maley then scored the final run of the game, unearned, off a single by Ochoa for a 12-6 Lobo lead and the eventual victory.
Sul Ross improves to 11-9 on the season and 5-2 in conference competition while the Blazers drop to 5-12 and 3-9.
The three-game series winds up Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
