Stephen Walker registered 21 points and paced Sul Ross to an 86-77 come-from-behind victory over University of Puget Sound Sunday afternoon.
The Loggers started the outing with hot rhythm nailing 10-of-15 shots from three-point distance in the first half.
Puget Sound assembled a 7-0 run to take a 10-5 lead with 16:43 left in the first half.
A 6-0 run by the home team gave the Loggers their largest lead of the half with a 12-point, 32-20 advantage at the 8:08 mark.
A pair of free throws by
Tristen Licon cut Sully's deficit to two trailing 39-37 before the Loggers' Josh McMillian drained a three-point basket at :19 seconds for a 42-37 lead heading to intermission.
Puget Sound would go on to lead by 12 over the first four minutes of the second half before a three-pointer by
Jack Kirkpatrick at 13:25 cut the Lobo deficit to four.
Sul Ross then held the Loggers to an eight-point lead before two foul shots by Walker capped a 7-0 Lobo run and pulled Sully to within a point at the 9:45 mark.
Cole Avery finished up an old school three pointer with a layup and free throw and handed the Lobos their first lead of the contest, 62-61 at 8:41.
Puget Sound would hold the lead one final time as Carl Hansen converted a free throw for a 68-65 advantage at 4:44.
Jola Otubu then connected from long range at the 4:12 mark as Sully took the go ahead leading 71-68.
The Loggers crept to within five but two foul shots and a layup by Walker with under 20 seconds remaining put the contest out of reach as the Lobos went on to post the 86-77 win.
B.J. Hollis, Kirkpatrick and Licon finished the game with 17, 11 and 10 point respectively. Hollis led rebounders with seven boards.
The Lobos even their season mark at 1-1 while Puget Sound falls to 1-1.
Sul Ross will visit Division II U.T. Permian Basin on Wednesday, November 21. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. from the Falcon Dome.
