ABILENE- The Sul Ross Lady Lobo volleyball team dropped a 3-1 ASC decision to Hardin-Simmons University Friday night in Abilene.
Sully registered a 25-23 victory in the opening set before the Cowgirls posted straight set wins in scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-23.
In the opening set, the Lady Lobos recovered from an early deficit and tied the game at six off a Hardin-Simmons attack error.
Back-to-back kills by
Priscila Serrano and
Karigan Edwards then gave Sully an 8-6 lead.
Another spike by Ruiz sparked a 6-0 Sul Ross run that ended with another Ruiz kill for a 16-11 lead for the visitors.
The Lady Lobos broke out to a seven-point lead at the 20-13 mark with a kill by
Marina Gonzales.
The Cowgirls suffered a series of offensive errors toward the end of the set as Sully posted the 25-23 victory.
For the match, Ruiz and
Annika Canaba shouldered 11 kills each.
Kylee Davis added 17 assists while Edwards sported 17 digs.
Sul Ross drops to 4-10 overall and 3-6 in conference competition.
The Lady Lobos will face McMurry University in Abilene Saturday.
First serve is scheduled for noon.
