Sully extends win streak to 12 with 95-73 victory over HSU

ALPINE, Texas- Caleb Thomasson posted 26 points and nine rebounds as the Sul Ross Lobos took down Hardin-Simmons University in a 95-73 conference win Saturday at the Gallego Center.

With the victory, the Lobos extend their streak to 12 games heading into Thursday's West Division showdown in Austin against Concordia.

Sul Ross also remains undefeated at the Gallego Center at 7-0.

The Cowboys' Joe Houep posted the first points on the board with a pair of free throw 18 seconds in the game.

B.J. Hollis then drained a three-point basket which kick started a 10-0 Lobo run.

C.J. Ross converted a shot in the paint to end the drive and gave the host team at 13-2 lead with 15:47 remaining in the first half.

Hollis rang in another long range jumper at the 9:35 mark for a 12-point, 27-15 advantage at 9:35.

Sul Ross then mounted a 7-0 run capped by a foul shot by Thomasson with 4:48 left in the half and Sully leading, 40-22.

The Cowboys could pull no closer than a dozen and went to the half trailing 50-37.

A layup by the Cowboys' Chris Barrett pulled the visitors to within nine with 15:23 left in the second half.

A pair of foul shots by Hollis at the 5:38 mark gave the Lobos their largest lead of 29.

Sul Ross never looked back as Barrett converted the final basket of the game at three seconds as Sully recorded the 95-73 victory.

Stephen Walker finished the afternoon with 16 points while Hollis posted 15.

Conner Dawson and Ross sported 12 and 10 points respectively. Walker, Jola Otubu and Brock Anders notched three assists each.

For the game, the Lobos shot 52 percent from the field against the Cowboys at 31-of-60 and connected on 9-of-21 from beyond the arc at 43 percent. 

The Lobos improve to 14-4 and 9-1 and maintain sole possession of first place in the Conference West with a two-game lead over Concordia.

Thursday night's bout in Austin is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
