Tristen Licon posted a season-best 21 points to lead the Sul Ross Lobos to an 88-64 ASC victory over visiting McMurry Thursday night.
Thursday's win marks the 11th consecutive victory for Sul Ross as the Lobos improve to 13-4 and 8-1 heading into Saturday's home bout against Hardin-Simmons. Sully also remains undefeated at the Gallego Center this season with a 6-0 record.
McMurry's Jason Stepter converted the initial basket 12 seconds into the game on a jumper in the paint.
B.J. Hollis answered two possessions later with a three-point basket giving the Lobos a one-point lead.
The War Hawks then broke a 3-3 tie with a free throw by Berry Dedrick before Hollis banked on another three-pointer putting Sul Ross ahead, 6-4 with 17:41 remaining in the first half.
Two more triples by
Brock Anders and Licon spread the Lobo lead to eight at the 15:37 mark.
A free throw by
Stephen Walker at 11:47 started a 6-0 run that ended on another foul shot by
Jola Otubu at 10:06 for an 18-7 Sul Ross advantage.
Sully would go on the sport a pair of 15-point leads before a layup by Anders put the Lobos ahead by 22 with 2:15 left before intermission.
McMurry ended the half with a 6-0 run and trailed 44-30 at the half.
The home team erupted with a 15-0 run that was capped by a fastbreak layup by
C.J. Ross for a 61-22 lead at the 14:24 second half mark.
A three-pointer and two converted free throws by
Cole Avery gave Sul Ross its second largest lead of 32 with 11:48 left in the game.
Two baskets by
Caleb Thomasson gave Sully a pair of 33-point leads at the midway point of the half.
The Wak Hawks never recovered momentum as the Lobos glided to the 88-64 win.
Hollis and Ross sported 12 and 10 points respectively Thomasson mustered five rebounds.
Sul Ross shot 43 percent from the floor against McMurry at 27-of-63 and finished at 14-of-30 shooting from outside the arc.
The Lobos will look to extend their streak to 12 wins against the Cowboys Saturday. Tip off is slated for 4:00 at the Gallego Center.
