Pack soars past McMurry, 86-58

ALPINE, Texas- Caleb Thomasson (Ackerly/Sands) notched his third straight double double with a second-season best 30 points and 10 rebounds to lead Sul Ross (12-10, 8-5 ASC) to an 86-58 stomping of McMurry (8-13, 4-9 ASC) at the Gallego Center Saturday.

The Lobos will play their final two road games of the regular season this Thursday and Saturday in key ASC matchups against Mary Hardin-Baylor and Concordia.

Sul Ross broke ahead for a 6-5 lead three minutes into the contest as Thomasson hit a jumper in the paint.

The War Hawks held the Lobos to four, five-point leads before the home team mounted a 5-0 run and held a ten-point, 23-13 advantage.

A layup by B.J. Hollis (Brady/BHS) extended Sully's lead to 12 with 7:04 remaining before the break.

A dunk and a jumper by Damien Rhodriquez (San Antonio/John Jay) gave the Lobos a pair of 14-point favors at 4:21 and 3:56.

Sophomore Brock Anders (Keller/KHS) scored the final basket of the period as Sul Ross went to the half ahead 39-28.

Thomasson connected from short range 13 seconds into the second half spreading the Lobo lead to 13.

A layup by Conner Dawson (Tilden/McClullen County) capped an 11-0 run by the Pack with 15:08 left in the game.

Xavier Webb (Riverton, WY/RHS) then bingoed from long range before a scooper by Thomasson at 14:07 gave the Lobos their largest lead at that point, up 60-37.

Webb nailed another triple at the 6:45 mark for a 73-47 Sul Ross advantage.

Rhodriquez then connected on a high post three-pointer at 30 seconds.

A free throw by McMurry's Zacc Carter at 10 seconds closed out scoring as Sully bagged the 86-58 final.    

Webb finished the afternoon with 20 points while Rhodriquez tallied 11.

Sul Ross shot an impressive 30-of-55 from the field at 55 percent and converted 9-of-20 from outside the arc at 45 percent.

The Lobos also hit 17-of-21 free throws, good for 81 percent.
