BELTON- A game-long shooting slump was too much to overcome as Sul  Ross (12-11, 8-6 ASC) fell to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (14-8, 7-6 ASC), 73-62 in ASC competition Thursday night in Belton.

The Lobos will have a rematch with Concordia University at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in Austin.

Sully held a slim lead for nearly half of the opening period.

A mid-range basket by UMHB's Austen Stolte at the 10:18 mark broke a 16-16 tie and initiated a 6-0 run.

The Crusaders never lost footing and mounted a 9-2 run to lead 35-25 with 3:17 remaining before intermission.

Sul  Ross cut its deficit to four off a three-pointer by Xavier Webb (Riverton, WY/RHS) at 2:04.

That would mark the final bucket scored in the half by the Lobos as Mary Hardin-Baylor ended the period with a pair of free throws for a 37-31 advantage.

The home squad began the second half with a 6-0 run and would sport its largest lead of 17 with 16:17 left in the contest.

Two foul shots by Caleb Thomasson (Ackerly/Sands) cut Sully's deficit to nine before C.J. Ross (Austin/Akins) cleared a short range jumper and pulled the Lobos to within seven at 11:11.

Mary Hardin-Baylor then broke out to a 16-point lead at 6:05.

Sul  Ross scored the final bucket of the night at two seconds as Jacob Dawson (Amarillo/AHS) drained a long-range jumper.

Thomasson scored a double double 16 points and 11 rebounds in the effort while Webb and Ross sported 13 and 12 points respectively.

Sully completed the night at 22-of-59 shooting or 37 percent and banked on 7-of-22 from beyond the arc.
