Final Statistics
ALEXANDRIA, Louisiana- Shooting a season-best 52 percent from the field, the Sul Ross men's basketball team delivered a 71-58 bruising of Louisiana College in Thursday night ASC competition in Alexandria.
Caleb Thomasson registered 24 points in the victory and sported four assists, a block and four steals.
Following a 5-5 tie, the Wildcats held a slim lead for a five-minute span before Sully's
Tristen Licon rang up a three-point bucket to knot the game at 13 with 12:44 left in the first half.
A layup by the Wildcats' Trey Ames at 12:15 put Louisiana College back in control and started a 6-0 run for the home squad.
Later in the half,
Stephen Walker connected on the first of two free throws to tie the game at 28 at the 2:26 mark.
Thomasson then scored on a finger roll to give Sul Ross its first lead of the game, 30-28 at 1:22.
Thomasson would then nail a foul shot at 33 seconds as the visitors went to the locker room leading 31-28.
The Lobos took command of the second half as
Brock Anders fired off a three-pointer giving Sully a 44-37 lead at 14:01.
Another long range conversion by
Jola Otubu at 11:00 minutes extended the Lobo lead to eight before a layup by Thomasson at 7:02 put Sul Ross ahead, 61-46.
The Lobos held their double digit lead for the remainder of the game as the Widlcats' Taylor Grogan knocked down the final shot of the contest at 18 seconds.
Thomasson, Otubu and Licon mustered six rebounds in Thursday's win.
As a team, Sully canned 15-of-25 shots from the floor in the second half to boost their game total of 26-of-50.
The Lobos finished at 8-of-19 shooting from three-point distance at 42 percent including 5-of-9 in the second period.
With three straight victories under its belt, Sul Ross improves to 5-4 on the season including a 3-1 mark in ASC play. The Wildcats drop to 1-5 and 0-3.
The Lobos will take on the Blazers of Belhaven University at 4:00 p.m. Saturday in Jackson, Mississippi.
