ABILENE-
Autumn Kilpatrick (Sterling City/SCHS) recorded a team-best 14 kills to lead Sul Ross (3-22, 1-13) to a 3-0 sweep over Louisiana College (0-17, 0-12) in the final round of the ASC crossover Saturday in Abilene.
All three sets were decided by four points or less as the Lady Lobos claimed a 25-21 victory in the opening game. Sully then edged the Wildcats in identical 25-23 wins in sets two and three.
Destiny Wilson's (Arlington/Sam Houston) kill broke a 2-2 tie and started a 3-0 run in the opening set. Wilson posted another kill which gave Sul Ross a one-point lead at the 8-7 mark.
A ball handling error set the Lady Lobos behind at 12-11 before a kill by Kilpatrick knotted the outing.
Jordan Scherer (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge) notched a scoring punch on the next serve giving Sul Ross a 13-12 advantage.
Priscila Serrano (Marfa/MHS) moved the game to set point with a kill set up by
Mirella Thomas (San Antonio/Stevens). An attack error by Louisiana College handed Sully the 25-21 set victory.
In game two,
Alie Muldrow (Crosby/CHS) and Scherer sported a kill each giving the Lady Lobos a 2-0 lead.
Sul Ross then started a 3-0 run capped by an ace by Muldrow at the 6-3 mark.
Sully then commenced on a 7-0 attack as
Isabella Ruiz (Fabens/FHS) nailed the kill for an 11-4 favor.
The Wildcats clawed their way to a 21-21 tie. Scherer then moved on a set-point kill before Muldrow's kill sealed the 25-23 win.
The Lady Lobos started the closing game with a 3-0 run which involved back-to-back aces by Muldrow.
Louisiana College recovered and went on to hold an 11-7 lead.
Sul Ross fought its way to a 14-14 tie with another kill by Serrano.
Several ties ensued down the stretch as a Wildcat hitting error broke a 22-22 knot.
Ruiz then set up a match-point kill before Kilpatrick finished off Louisiana College with her 14th kill of the day.
The Lady Lobos will host Hardin-Simmons and McMurry next Friday and Saturday to close out the season.
