Jordan Scherer (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge) posted eight kills on the day but LeTourneau swept the Lady Lobos in three sets at Friday's round of the ASC crossover. Sully then dropped a 3-0 decision to U.T. Tyler.
All three sets against LeTourneau were decided in 25-21 decisions.
In the opening game, a service ace by
McKenna Thomas (Odessa/Permian) tied the outing a four. A bad set by LeTourneau on the next serve put the Lady Lobos ahead.
A service ace by the Yellowjackets' Audrey Galindo broke a 6-6 knot as LeTourneau held on to the lead for the remainder of the game. Another ace, this time by Marfa native
Priscila Serrano pulled Sul Ross to within two at the 23-21 mark.
LeTourneau slipped away for the victory off a Lady Lobo attack error and an ace for the 25-21 final.
A kill by
Isabella Ruiz in set two gave Sully a 3-2 advantage.
An ace by Serrano and a kill by
Alie Muldrow (Crosby/CHS) spread the gap 6-3.
Sul Ross traded leads with the Yellowjackets to the middle part of the set.
A kill by Thomas broke a 15-15 tie before Ruiz banked from the front line giving Sully a 17-15 lead.
LeTourneau tied the game at 19 off an ace by Cam Taylor before a bad set by the Lady Lobos gave the Yellowjackets the go ahead.
Sul Ross held its last lead at the 21-20 post before LeTourneau pounced on a 5-0 run to claim the 25-21 victory.
An ace by Scherer in the final game broke a 9-9 tie before a kill by
Autumn Kilpatrick (Sterling City/SCHS) gave Sully its final lead of the match.
The Yellowjackets held the Lady Lobos close but prevailed with a 2-0 attack to close the set in another 25-21 decision.
Mirella Thomas (San Antonio/Stevens) secured 11 assists while
McKenna Thomas and
Hannah Zly led defenders with 14 and 10 digs.
Scores against U.T. Tyler were 25-7, 25-12 and 25-17.
Alesi Hernandez (Odessa/OHS) sported 11 assists while
McKenna Thomas totaled 12 digs.
Sul Ross will face Louisiana College at 10:00 a.m. Saturday to close out this week's tournament.
