Buzzer beater lifts UMHB over Sul Ross, 59-58

ALPINE, Texas- Mary Hardin-Baylor's Aubrie King scored his only bucket of the day on a time-expiring three-pointer giving the visiting Crusaders (12-6, 5-4 ASC) a 59-58 ASC victory over Sul Ross (9-10, 5-5 ASC) Saturday at the Gallego Center.

The Lobos will head to Brownwood next Saturday for conference competition against Howard Payne. Tip off is slated for 3:00 p.m.

Sul Ross sported a 7-0 run to start the game.

A three-point bucket by C.J. Ross (Austin/Akins) put Sully up by 10 with 11:02 remaining in the first half.

The Lobos held their largest lead of 11 as Brock Anders (Keller/KHS) knocked down a jumper in the lane for a 24-13 advantage at 7:34.

The Crusaders battled their way to within a single digit deficit and ended the half on a 4-0 run trailing 29-24.

Sul Ross was held to a pair of eight-point leads over the first 10 minutes of the closing period.

Mary Hardin-Baylor narrowed the gap to two at as Demarius Cress rang in a long distance shot at 5:12.

A jump shot in the paint by Keenan Holdman tied the game at 51 with 3:43 left in regulation.

Anders broke the stalemate with a two-point bucket before Cress answered to knot the game at 53 at 3:14.

One more tie would ensue before Jacob Dawson (Amarillo/AHS) fired off a fast break bucket inside the arc with five seconds remaining.

Both teams would then call a 30-second timeout before the Crusaders would have the ball from their own baseline at two seconds.

King received the inbounds pass and launched the game winner from the corner as the clock ran out.

Xavier Webb (Riverton/WY/RHS) led Lobo shooters with 19 points while Ross bagged 11.

Caleb Thomasson led rebounders with six boards.
