Caleb Thomasson (Ackerly/Sands) recorded his second straight double double with 15 points and 13 rebounds to lead Sul Ross (2-4, 1-1 ASC) to a 77-70 ASC victory over visiting LeTourneau (3-3, 0-2 ASC) at the Gallego Center Saturday.
The Lobos will finish up a four-game home stand Monday night at 7:00 p.m. against University of the Southwest in a non conference bout.
LeTourneau held a small lead for nearly half of the opening period until the Lobos tied the game at 16 off a layup by
A.J. James (Spring/SHS) at the 11:35 mark.
The Yellow Jackets broke the tie and held the lead until 5:02 when Thomasson's paint shot gave Sully a 28-27 go ahead.
Sul Ross scored the final bucket of the period at 39 seconds as
Brock Anders (Keller/KHS) converted a three-pointer giving the home squad a 35-28 advantage at the half.
Xavier Webb (Riverton,WY/RHS) spread the Lobo lead to 10, 44 seconds into the second half with a three-point shot.
A 9-0 Sul Ross run culminated at 12:29 as
C.J. Ross (Austin/Akins) fired off a long range jumper for a 49-36 Lobo lead.
A jumper by Thomasson at 8:42 gave Sully its largest lead of the afternoon, an 18-point, 59-41 favor.
The Jackets pulled to within seven for the 77-70 final as Alec Colhoff made three foul shots in the closing seconds of the contest.
Jacob Dawson (Amarillo/AHS) and
Damien Rhodriquez (San Antonio/John Jay) secured 12 points each in the victory.
