Men's basketball routs Univ. of the Ozarks, 99-64

ALPINE, Texas-Caleb Thomasson (Ackerly/Sands) polled his sixth double double of the season as Sul Ross (5-5, 3-1 ASC) delivered a 99-64 knock out to University of the Ozarks (4-4, 1-4 ASC) Saturday afternoon.

The Lobos will square off against U.T. Dallas at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Gallego Center.

Sully began the contest on an 8-0 run ending on a jump shot in the paint by Brock Anders (Keller/KHS).

A free throw by Josh Berard narrowed the visitor's deficit to seven with 12:42 left in the half.

Sul Ross then assembled a 7-0 run near the midway point of the period as A.J. James (Spring/SHS) rang in a three-point popper giving the home team a 20-point, 29-9 advantage.

A mid range shot by Conner Dawson (Tilden/McCullen County) stretched the home team lead to its largest margin, 49-23 at 1:08.

The Eagles' Skylar Barnes nailed a free throw with just under a minute remaining as Sully went to the half sporting a commanding 49-24 advantage.

The Lobos allowed their lead to slip under 20 as Ozark's Dylan Gray slammed down a dunk at 17:23 with the Eagles trailing 49-30.

Sul Ross posted a 6-0 run near the 10 minute mark as freshman B.J. Hollis (Brady/BHS) drained a three-pointer for a 70-42 Lobo advantage.

Two free throws by C.J. Ross (Austin/Akins) put Sully up by 31 before Isaiah Tillman's (Lubbock/Frenship) long distance jumper at 3:26 pushed the home team ahead, 89-54.   

Xavier Webb (Riverton,WY/RHS) then connected from outside the arc at 2:43 for a 36-point lead as Sully picked up two more buckets from Dawson and a jumper by Aaron Anderson (Amarillo/AHS) in the closing moments of regulation.

Thomasson posted 23 points and 10 rebounds on the afternoon while four other Lobos secured double digit performances.

Anders tallied 17 points while Tillman, Webb and James recorded 14, 11 and 10 points respectively. 

The Lobos connected on half their shots from the field at 38-of-76 shooting.
