Men's basketball falls to U.T.P.B., 112-88

ODESSA- Caleb Thomasson (Ackerly/Sands) accounted for 20 points as the Sul Ross men's basketball team (1-2) fell to undefeated U.T. Permian Basin (6-0) in a 112-88 decision Tuesday evening.

The Lobos will play their first home game of the season on November 29 in a 7:30 p.m. rematch with Schreiner University.

Following a game-opening 4-0 run by the opposition, Sully's Xavier Webb (Riverton, WY/RHS) popped a long range jumper and pulled the Lobos to a 4-3 deficit with 19:23 left in the first half.

Following a paint shot by Thomasson, Webb fired another three-pointer at 18:34 extending the Sul Ross lead 8-4.

A three-point play by C.J. Ross (Austin/Akins) paired with a short range jump shot by DeVondre Livingston (Liberal, KS/LHS) capped a 5-0 drive and put the visiting Lobos ahead, 13-4 at 17:24.

Two free throws by the Falcons' Zeldric King narrowed U.T.P.B.'s deficit to three, down 13-10.

Sully witnessed its lead slip away as a pair of foul shots by Sammy Allen gave the Falcons an 18-17 go ahead.

The Lobos broke a 20-20 tie and mounted a 5-0 run ending on a layup by Jacob Dawson (Amarillo/AHS) at 10:01 for a 27-22 Sul Ross advantage.

Sully would extend its lead to six off a free throw by Ross at the 7:59 mark before the home team chiseled its way to a 38-38 tie with 5:20 remaining before intermission.

 The lead was exchanged down the final stretch of the half before a layup and a foul shot by the Falcons gave U.T.P.B. a slim 52-50 favor at the break.

The home team spread the gap to eight to begin the second half with a 4-0 run.

A layup by Allen at 16:41 extended the Falcons' lead to double digits as U.T.P.B. went on three, 16-point surges.

The Falcons would go on to lead by 28 before Sul Ross ended the contest on a 4-0 run for the 112-88 U.T.P.B. victory.

Ross, Webb and Dawson sported 15, 14 and 10 points respectively. All three tied with a team high six rebounds each.

Thomasson recorded three blocks.

The Lobos shot an astounding 21 of 23 shots from the stripe at 91 percent.
