DeVondre Livingston (Liberal, KS/LHS) led the charge with 16 points as Sul Ross dropped a hard fought 85-77 exhibition to NCAA Division I North Texas Friday at the Super Pit.
The Lobos will begin the regular season on November 15 at Schreiner University.
Sully held two brief leads as
Jacob Dawson (Amarillo/AHS) converted a transition three-pointer for a 22-21 advantage at the 7:20 mark, first half.
A free throw by
Caleb Thomasson (Ackerly/Sands) tied the contest at 23 at 6:21.
Dawson posted a pair of foul shots just four seconds later to give the Lobos a 25-23 lead.
The Mean Green would go on to sport a 10-point lead before a 5-0 Lobo scoring run cut Sully's deficit to six, 40-34 heading to the break.
North Texas surged to an 18-point lead with 4:06 left in the game.
Sul Ross chiseled the margin down to under a 10-point deficit and ended the game on a 4-0 run.
Brock Anders (Keller/KHS) and Dawson supplied 13 and 12 points respectively in the effort.
The Lobos finished the night shooting 39 percent from the field against the Division I Mean Green. Sully nailed 15 of 22 free throws at 68 percent.
