VideoALPINE, Texas-East Texas Baptist snapped a five-game Lobo winning streak Saturday with a 67-64 conference victory over Sul Ross at the Gallego Center.
Alex Harrison (Lubbock/Monterey) and Caleb Thomasson (Ackerly/Sands) posted 15 points each in the effort while Rocky Feliciano (El Paso/Hanks) scored 10.
Thomasson led the team in rebounds with eight.
The Lobos shot 46 percent from the field against ETBU. It marked the first time in five contests that Sul Ross was held under 50 percent shooting.
The Lobos held several minor leads to start the game before the Tigers' Dylan Augustine ripped the net from three-point range to tie the contest at eight with 15:22 remaining in the first half.
A jump shot in the paint by Thomasson and another bucket by ETBU's Tyler Day knotted the game at 10 at 14:55.
Sul Ross then assembled an 8-0 run which was capped by a jumper by Feliciano giving the Lobos an 18-10 lead at 12:21.
A bucket in the paint by Thomasson at 10:54 put the home team Lobos ahead 23-12 with 10:54 left in the period.
The Tigers pulled to within four at 6:13 when C.J. Sweet converted from long range with Sul Ross ahead, 27-23.
Sully then unleashed an 11-0 run ending on a short distance shot by Damien Rhodriquez (San Antonio/John Jay) and the Lobos sporting a 38-23 advantage with 1:16 left until the half.
Augustine would close the half with a three-point shot as both teams headed to the locker room with Sul Ross ahead, 38-26.
The Lobos held several moderate leads to start the second period.
An 11-0 by the opposition pulled the Tigers to within two, trailing 54-52 at 5:44.
A three-pointer by Day at 4:42 swung the lead to East Texas Baptist by one leading Sul Ross 58-57.
Jacob Dawson (Amarillo/AHS) gave the Lobos a one-point go ahead on the ensuing possession before Sweet converted from beyond the arc at 3:42 shouldering the Tigers with a 61-59 advantage.
The Lobos' last two buckets came off a three-pointer by Patrick Mound (Cedar Park/Coleman) and a scoop shot by Harrison pulling Sully to within one, down 65-64.
A layup by Jordan Quillian at 48 seconds sealed the Lobos' fate as ETBU escaped with the 67-64 victory.
With the loss Sul Ross falls to 7-7 on the season and 4-2 in ASC competition while the Tigers bump their season and league records to 9-4 and 3-2.
The Lobos will host McMurry and Hardin-Simmons next Thursday and Saturday.
