AUSTIN-Freshman Brock Anders (Keller/KHS) scored a team best and season high 20 points as Sul Ross dropped a 106-96 American Southwest Conference game Thursday night to Concordia in Austin.
Jacob Dawson (Amarillo/AHS) put up 17 points for the Lobos while Alex Harrison (Lubbock/Monterey), Caleb Thomasson (Ackerly/Sands) and Xavier Webb (Riverton,WY/RHS) scored 16, 12 and 11 points respectively in the effort.
Sully left several points at the free throw line finishing at 23 of 43 or 54 percent. The Lobos finished the evening shooting 35-65 or 54 percent from the floor which tied their performance at the foul line.
Both teams exchanged leads throughout the opening period.
The Tornadoes used a late half drive to take a 51-46 lead to intermission.
Concordia broke out to a double digit advantage with 16:09 left in the game leading 64-54.
An 11-0 run by the home team gave the Tornadoes an 81-66 lead at 10:51 before breaking out to their largest margin of 17, a 93-76 favor with 5:10 remaining in regulation.
The Lobos fought their way down to five with a 12-0 ending with a layup by Anders at 2:20 and Concordia leading 93-88.
The Tornadoes ended the game on a 7-0 run to post the 106-96 victory.
Sul Ross falls to 9-8 and 5-3 while Concordia improves to 8-8 and 3-4.
The Lobos will visit Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
