Lobos Open Up LSC Season With Lady Chaps

ALPINE, Texas – The Sul Ross State University volleyball team (0-1 LSC, 0-11) lost 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-17) to Lubbock Christian (1-0 LSC, 5-6), Thursday night at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

In the first set, Sul Ross State and Lubbock Christian battled on even terms early.  Sophomore Arianne Nieto recorded a kill off a nice set by sophomore Violetta Flores.

That made it 7-5, Lady Chaps.  LCU went on an 8-3 run to take control.

In the second set, the Lobos came out strong.  SRSU forced an error to take a 7-4 lead.

Lubbock Christian pulled out an 8-5 run to make it 12-12.  Nieto served up an ace to put Sul Ross State up 15-12.

The Lady Chaps took the lead at 23-20.  Junior Libby Foster and sophomore Hannah Garcia had back-to-back kills.

That closed the gap to 23-22.  LCU got the next two points to take the set.

In the third set, the Lobos and Lady Chaps battled on even terms until 13-12, LCU.  Lubbock Christian scored nine straight to effectively end the match

For Sul Ross State, Foster had 10 kills.

For Lubbock Christian, Camryn Blair had 15 kills and hit .429.

Sul Ross State remains home, Saturday, Sept. 19 playing Midwestern State.  The match is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
