Lobos And Lady Chaps Slug It Out

ALPINE, Texas – Everything was left on the field as the Sul Ross State University women's soccer team (0-2-1 Lone Star Conference, 0-4-2) battled Lubbock Christian (1-0-2 LSC, 4-1-2) to a 0-0 tie, Wednesday afternoon at Lobo Soccer Field.

In the first half, Sul Ross State and Lubbock Christian put on a display of strong defense and solid  goalkeeping.  The teams combined to allow just nine shots with six on goal.

The second half saw the Lobos outshoot the Lady Chaps by almost 2-1 (9-5).  Twice SRSU had long free kicks that were stopped by great plays from the LCU keeper.

Sul Ross State had 13 shots with 10 on goal and were called for nine fouls.  Freshman Kat Graves finished with six saves.

Lubbock Christian had 10 shots with six on goal, one corner kick and were called for 10 fouls.  Emma Wright had 10 saves.

"I believe the performance deserved more than the result gave us today. We played with energy, we competed with purpose, and most importantly, we created the situations necessary to win the match. What we lacked was the final action. In football, creating chances is important, but eventually you have to transform those chances into goals. That is the responsibility we have to improve. I'm disappointed we didn't take three points, especially at home, but I'm not disappointed in the way the team played. There is a growing belief within this group and a willingness to work for one another. We have to protect that, continue improving, and use this performance as another step forward."

Sul Ross State hits the road, Saturday, Sept. 19 playing #15 Texas Woman's.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
