Alpine, Texas — Sul Ross State University Baseball (3-40, LSC 3-40) opened its Lone Star Conference series against UT Dallas (31-12, LSC 31-12) Friday afternoon at Kokernot Field. The Comets took game one over the Lobos with an 8-5 final.
Sul Ross recorded 10 hits in the contest, highlighted by Jared Salinas who went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Lobos offensively. Brock Rogers and Max Wiggins each added two hits, while Leo Salas contributed with a double and scored a run. The Lobos made a strong push with a four-run fifth inning to cut into the deficit and added another run in the seventh, continuing to battle throughout the game.
The Lobos and Comets continue the four-game Lone Star Conference series Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch. Sul Ross Baseball will also recognize its seniors prior to game one of the doubleheader as part of Senior Day.
