Lobos Vacuum Up Dustdevils

ALPINE, Texas – Freshman Addison Castilleja threw a no-hitter as the Sul Ross State University softball team (4-20 Lone Star Conference, 6-25) swept Texas A&M International (5-17 LSC, 9-26) 4-3 (8 innings) and 8-0 (5 innings), Wednesday at Lobo Softball Field.

Game-1
In the third inning, freshman Baylie Savage walked and senior Elizabeth Clemente singled to lead off the inning.  Sophomore Carissa Fernandez doubled to score Savage and put Sul Ross State up 1-0.

Clemente hit a bomb over the left field fence in the fifth to make it 2-0.  Texas A&M International stunned the Lobos with three runs in the sixth inning.

In the seventh inning, with one out, Fernandez drew a walk.  Junior Samantha Bustos singled to left field.  Fernandez would score when the fielder booted the ball to make it 3-3.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, with two outs, Savage singled.  Clemente hit a ground ball that was misplayed allowing Savage to get to third and Clemente to reach first.  A passed ball allowed Savage to score the game winner.

For Sul Ross State, Clemente had two hits and Savage scored twice.  Freshman Jaclyn Pate (2-9) gave up six hits, three runs, walked one and struck out one in eight innings.

For Texas A&M International, Anaya Paredes (0-2) gave up one hit and one run which was unearned in two-thirds of an inning.

Game-2
In the night cap, Sul Ross State used a walk and six hits to score five runs in the first inning to effectively end the game.

For Sul Ross State, the Lobos had five players with multiple hits led by junior Valeria Aguilar and sophomore Jenna Leanos with three each. Leanos extended her reaching base safely streak to 15 games.
